Jennifer Lopez’s upcoming Bob The Builder film has returned to the spotlight after being thrust back into the spotlight, with social media users confused as to why it is named after the original series when the plot is so different.
The project, which will see In the Heights star Anthony Ramos take over the titular character, re-entered the public consciousness on Monday. Term reported that Amazon MGM Studios had won the bidding war for the rights.
In the film, Roberto (Ramos), aka Bob, travels to Puerto Rico for a major construction job, addressing issues affecting the island and digging deeper into what it means to build.
Bob’s journey celebrates the vibrant and colorful textures of the Caribbean Latin American countries and their people.
The original Bob the Builder series was a British animated children’s television show created by Keith Chapman.

It ran from April 12, 1999 to December 31, 2011 in the United Kingdom through its CBBC affiliate and later CBeebies.
The program focuses on the adventures and escapades of a general contractor named Bob, who owns a team of anthropomorphic construction vehicles who spend their days helping the residents of Bobsville.
They are also joined by colleague Wendy, along with their neighbors and friends.
Bob the Builder made the slogan famous: ‘Can we fix it? Yes, we can!’ – with the character even scoring a UK Christmas number one single in 2000.
Social media users are baffled by JLo’s film for being so far removed from the original. Many also don’t know why makers make a children’s film ‘so profound’.
On social media site X, someone wrote: ‘Isn’t that Bob the Builder?????’
Another said of the plot: “What does that even mean?”
‘Kind of cool how completely nonsensical Hollywood is sometimes, because like tf (the f***) you mean Amazon makes a movie about Bob (called Roberto in this movie) The Builder who goes on a journey to really discover what it means. ..building,” a third posted.

‘Hysterical stuff.’
A fourth continued: “I remember growing up watching Bob the Builder. The show was about building things with talking construction machines, teaching kids how to rely on your friends when you need them.
“How did we get here?”
A fifth continued: ‘I really don’t understand this.’
“This is a kids cartoon, no origin story needed lol he’s Bob the Builder,” said a sixth.
Others wrote: ‘Since when do children’s films have to be so profound?’
Another said: ‘Amazing how deep a plot they’re pursuing with Bob the Builder lore.’
The animated film was first announced in January when it was revealed that JLo’s production company Nuyorican Productions had joined forces with Anthony for the new film.
It was previously confirmed that JLo, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina will co-produce the Mattel Films project for Nuyorican Productions.
Felipe Vargas will write the upcoming film, with the project overseen by Kevin McKeon, Ivan Sanchez and Arturo Thur De Koós for Mattel and Natalie Haack Flores for Nuyorican.
The film was at the center of an unlikely culture war at the time of its announcement, with Frank Furedi, the emeritus professor of sociology at the University of Kent, stepping forward to make Bob a social justice warrior.
