Jennifer Lopez shed some light on the end of her relationship with Ben Affleck in 2003.
The Hustlers star, 54, sat down with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe for an interview this week to talk about how she their first wedding was called off in September 2003, but they did not immediately separate.
“We didn’t break up at that moment, it happened over the next few months,” Jlo explained, adding that they actually broke up in January 2004.
“Because what it did was it created doubt in my mind, and in both of our minds, about what our relationship was and where it was going, I think,” she added.
The Gigli stars reunited and married each other in 2022, but even nearly two decades ago, the Jenny From the Block singer — whose film This is Me…Now premieres today on Amazon Prime — knew she was the wanted to spend the rest of her life with the Argo director, 51.

“I knew in my heart that I wanted to be with him for the rest of my life, I knew that. But it didn’t feel like we were going to make it,” the Wedding Planner actress said, adding, “And so it scared me.”
At the time, Lopez was in her early 30s and Affleck in her late 20s, and she said she felt like they weren’t mature enough to work through their issues at that time and make a marriage work.
“Even though he was in his late 20s, I was in my early 30s, it still wasn’t… we weren’t ready to be with each other, to look at each other and think, what we have is real. we have to hang on, we have to do some work,” she explained. “We just weren’t there yet.”
Although she wasn’t ready to marry Affleck at the time and broke up in January 2004, she married singer Marc Anthony, 55, later that year and welcomed twins Emme and Max, 15, in February 2008.
The Air star, meanwhile, married Jennifer Garner, 51, in 2005 and welcomed three children together: Violet Anne, 18, Seraphina Rose, 15, and Samuel, 11.
Lopez split from Anthony in 2011 and got engaged to baseball superstar Alex Rodriguez, 48, in 2019.
The Maid in Manhattan star has been engaged six times and married three times.
Affleck, meanwhile, split from the Alias star in 2015 after 13 years of marriage, citing the reason they “grew apart” during a 2021 interview with Howard Stern.

“We went, and we both tried, and found other people, and had beautiful children, and had other families, and then even other relationships,” Lopez said in her interview with Lowe.
“It wasn’t until we both, I know for me, had done a lot of work and got to a place where I was like, ‘You know what? I’m totally fine on my own. I’m chill.’ “I love my life, I have a great career that I’ve built for myself, I have great kids… I have great friends.” Then he showed up again,” she said.
“And funny enough, he said he had the same kind of experience,” the I’m Real singer added. “And that’s pretty much how it went.”
Lopez and Affleck reunited in 2021 and married in Las Vegas in 2022 and also held a larger wedding that summer at the Good Will Hunting star’s compound in Georgia.
