Jennifer Lopez’ films soar on streamers while husband Ben Affleck’s new theater flick Hypnotic bombs

Jennifer Lopez movies float on streamers as husband Ben Affleck’s new theatrical film Hypnotic bombs

Initial results for Ben Affleck’s two new films have been mixed at best, as one of them was a big disappointment at the box office.

At the same time, Affleck’s wife Jennifer Lopez seems to be thriving in the streaming industry with her two new movies.

Affleck’s latest movie to hit theaters, Hypnotic (2023), was a major disappointment to fans, in terms of its box office earning potential.

Upon its May 12 theatrical release, the sci-fi action thriller directed by Robert Rodriguez grossed $940,000 on its first day in just over 2,100 theaters, and has grossed $2.4 million worldwide at its final check.

Distributed by two independent production companies, Ketchup Entertainment and Relativity Media, Hypnotic has a $65 million budget coupled with less than stellar reviews, and its prospects for turning a profit don’t look good.

There’s good news for Affleck and his other new film Air, which he directed and stars with Matt Damon.

The Amazon Prime production first had a limited run in theaters in the US on April 5, earning approximately $86.3 million by the time it premiered on the Amazon streaming service on May 12.

The biographical sports drama film reportedly cost around $90 million to produce, so with the initial revenue from the limited run in theaters, it’s almost already breaking even.

Air has since become the most popular of all movies and TV shows on Amazon Prime around the world, due to its Top 10 chart For May 14.

Its early success can be partially attributed to the generally positive reviews it has received from critics.

It seems that Jennifer Lopez is home bragging right now when it comes to comparing her two new movies alongside her husband’s, though the comparisons aren’t quite even.

Jlo’s audiences for The Mother and Shogun Wedding were exclusively home viewers.

Directed by Niki Caro, The Mother premiered on Netflix on May 12 to mixed reviews from critics.

Staying in the streaming world, the Jason Moore-directed Shotgun Wedding has also done well with viewership for Amazon Prime since its release on Jan. 27.

Amazon Prime Video saw the biggest monthly increase in usage in January, with a 9.3% increase in viewership driven by Amazon’s Shotgun Wedding and Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan original series,

And while the news sounds good for Lopez and her two new movies, it’s still hard to gauge exactly how much they’ve impacted earnings for Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
