Another iconic photo has emerged from the World Cup final between England and Spain, showing the sheer passion of the occasion.
If we thought Mary Earp’s screaming “f*** off” was the end of the story, we were wrong – because this one takes the intensity up a notch.
It shows Spain’s penalty miss Jennifer Hermoso raising her finger at Chloe Kelly – after Earps saved the Spaniard’s penalty.
It has all the hallmarks of an iconic sports photograph as it captures the fullness of the occasion and the often unruly competition between two elite teams.
It came in the wake of Earps letting go of the full extent of her emotions as she yelled expletives into Sydney’s air after taking a penalty.

After Earps dived left and collected Hermoso’s tame penalty kick, the England goalkeeper waved her arms and yelled ‘f*** off’ in a display of passion.
It wasn’t clear exactly who she was yelling at as it wasn’t aimed at anyone in particular, but it seemed to be a surge of emotion after a great save – and an attempt to get England going again after fending off a possible goal that would have extinguished their hopes.
Earps was praised on social media by fans who loved her in-your-face attitude — though some weren’t quite as thrilled, thinking she could have managed her emotions better.
