Jennifer Coolidge admits her ‘immaturity’ has stopped her from having kids

Jennifer Coolidge has admitted that her “immaturity” has prevented her from starting a family.

The actress, 61, who is currently enjoying a career resurgence thanks to her role in HBO’s The White Lotus, opened up about her choice in a new interview with British GK – which she stars on their latest all-star GQ Heroes cover.

Reflecting on her choice not to have children, Jennifer shared how her friends had encouraged her to adopt, but she believes she would be a better stepmother instead.

The star attributes it to an eagerness to stay young at heart, admitting that if she had welcomed children into her life, it means she should have “grown up.”

She explained to the publication, “I’m very, very immature, I think that’s stopped me from having kids because I’m kind of a kid. Maybe I should have grown up if I had kids. Maybe I should have grown up if I had kids.’

The star also shared how she would also “appreciate” her life in Los Angeles more if she had kids, noting that she is “bored” with where she lives.

Meanwhile, Jennifer, who is currently single, also attributed her lack of children to her habit of dating intense men.

She shared, “I’ve never had a laid-back friend who was just full of joy, you know? Like someone who laughs at all your shortcomings. That’s never who I choose for myself.’

Despite this, the actress has never lacked attention from the opposite sex, with Jennifer admitting last year that she slept with 200 people thanks to her infamous role as Stifler’s Mom in American Pie over two decades ago.

Jennifer has starred in films such as Legally Blonde and American Pie and is a household name for comedy buffs, but her role in The White Lotus further increased her fame.

Her role as Tanya McQuoid in the luxury class parody series has been recognized worldwide as she won awards at the Golden Globes, Emmys, Critics Choice Awards and SAG Awards.

However, Jennifer admits that she almost didn’t take the part due to psychological reasons.

She told the publication: I was not in the mood. [Was it fear of failure – or possibly success?] I was depressed, I was very depressed.”

She went on to reflect on her character’s demise in season two of the show, adding that it was her “fantasy” that may have contributed to Tanya’s end.

Jennifer explained: “I had encouraged Mike to tell an Italian story, I said I would really like to be in Italy or something, riding around on a Vespa with all these men reaching out and trying to light my cigarette . That’s my fantasy. But then I think that suggestion brought my death.’

Meanwhile, Jennifer – who was slated to host Saturday Night Live before the writers’ strike – recently sat down with The Bear star Jeremy Allen White as part of Variety’s actors on actors interview series.

She got candid about her career as she reflected on what she described as her “fatal flaw” in the days of her early success in the late 1990s to early 2000s.

When asked if she had had a plan to enter her acting career with longevity in mind, she admitted that she had not.

“Now that I’m old enough to really look back on my life and especially my mistakes, I see a lot of them. But I never had a strategy. I just went from job to job,” she explained.

Jennifer continued, “I have to say I made the terrible mistake of not riding the wave I had in the beginning. It was kind of back in the ’90s when I had Legally Blonde, Best in Show, and American Pie. And then there was Cinderella Story and things like that.

“But there was a moment. There was a wave I could have really ridden, but I got really distracted.”

As for the distraction? “I started chasing boys,” she said.

‘I wasn’t paying attention. I thought I had all my life left. I did get some jobs, but I had no plan. And I think that was a fatal mistake on my part because it took so long to get something going later on.”
