Jennifer Aniston is set to produce a ‘reimagining’ of the workplace comedy classic 9 To 5 written by Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody

Jennifer Aniston continues her successful run as a producer with a new version of the 1980 classic 9 To 5.

Aniston, 55, will change things up with a “reimagining” of the original film, according to The InSneider and confirmed by Variety Thursday.

The workplace satire featured the powerhouse trio Jane Fonda, her future Grace And Frankie co-star Lily Tomlin and country superstar Dolly Parton, making her feature film debut.

Parton – who guest-starred on Beyoncé’s recent chart-topper Cowboy Carter – also wrote and sang the title song, which became one of her biggest hits.

The new film is expected to be written by screenwriter Diablo Cody, who is best known for working with director Jason Reitman on several films, including Juno (2007).

The original was directed by Colin Higgins, who co-wrote it with Patricia Resnick, based on a story by Resnick.

Fonda starred as a newly single housewife who takes on an office job after her husband leaves her.

Tomlin played a senior supervisor at the company who is passed over in favor of less qualified male colleagues, while Parton made her debut as a bubbly secretary who is shunned by her coworkers after her sexual harassment boss (Dabney Coleman) makes amends. a workplace rumor that he is having an affair with her.

The trio ultimately decided to take revenge on their boss, which led them to consider killing him.

The film received mildly positive reviews but was a hit with audiences, ultimately grossing over $103 million against a budget of less than $10 million.

Parton’s theme song topped the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and was number nine on the Hot 100 year-end chart.
