Jenni Hermoso has revealed that she has received threats following the fallout from Luis Rubiales’ Kiss-Gate scandal.
The former Spanish football president kissed Hermoso on the lips without consent after Spain’s victory at the Women’s World Cup this summer.
Rubiales has since been banned from all football-related activities for the next three years.
In her first interview since the scandal, Hermoso says she considered quitting football because of the extreme pressure she was under.
“These weeks have been very difficult,” Hermoso told Spanish magazine GQ.

‘Having to tell it over and over again also hurt me a lot. But I know I had to let it go somehow. I continue to work on it with the help of my psychologist, with whom I have worked for many years.
‘For me, mental health is just as important as the daily training, such as the hours I have to sleep to get on the field. Thanks to her I feel strong and I am not broken or thinking about not wanting to play football anymore.
‘I had to suffer the consequences of an act that was unprovoked, unchosen or premeditated. I’ve received threats, and you never get used to that.’
Hermoso also thanked her male compatriots Borja Iglesias, Hector Bellerin, Oscar Trejo and Isco for their support for her, but criticized the lack of unanimity within men’s football.
‘I understand that everyone thinks how they think and I would also like to concentrate only on my sport, but when you see unfair situations you have to be on one side or the other.
“People will hate me or love me, but I have my way of thinking and I don’t mind saying it openly: ‘I don’t know if their support would have made everything easier, but it sure would have helped us a lot . .’
