Jenna Bush Hager reveals her grandma Barbara once sent her a ‘very mad LETTER’ reprimanding her for her bad behavior – as she quickly blames dad George W. for encouraging her antics
Jenna Bush Hager has recounted how her grandmother Barbara Bush once sent her a scathing letter about her bad behavior — revealing that she was actually encouraged to take action by her father, former President George W. Bush.
The TV presenter, 41, shed light on her rebellious behavior on Friday’s episode of Today With Hoda and Jenna, revealing how she once got into trouble with her grandma after a game of tennis.
It comes just a week after Bush Hager said her father “naively” promised her and her twin sister Barbara that they could lead a “normal life” while he was in the White House.
“My grandmother once wrote us a really funny letter,” she said. “I was playing tennis and she was mad at my behavior… and my dad thought it was hilarious, so he still encouraged me.”

Bush Hager went on to say that she got in trouble and received a nasty letter from her grandmother, who died in 2018 at the age of 92, which her father told her to throw in the trash.
She was recently reminded of the brutal incident when her father texted her asking if she had held on to the note.
“He said, ‘I wish you had it so we could turn it into an interpretive reading,'” she told co-host Hoda Kotb, 59.
“Some things that hurt you, you will laugh at later.”
This isn’t the first time Bush Hager has spoken candidly about her late grandmother’s devious ways.
In January, she revealed that her grandmother told her she used to look “chubby” in a bikini as a teenager, only to apologize for the cruel remark years later.
Bush Hager admitted that her words negatively affected her self-confidence, recalling, “I remember when I was a teenager. I remember the bikini color I wore, a yellow bikini color’.
“I was laying next to my sister (Barbara Bush) and my grandmother, who I adored but had a rather caustic personality, said something like, ‘Oh, Jenna! Looks chubby.’
Bush Hager didn’t learn until years later that her grandmother had projected her own insecurities onto her.

The former First Lady had received similar comments from her own mother, Pauline Pierce, who often compared her to her older sister, Martha Pierce, according to her granddaughter.
Last week, Bush Hager reflected on the public criticism she faced as the first daughter and how it taught her resilience during a cover interview with People magazine, saying she no longer cares what people say about her.
She and her twin sister were seniors at Austin High School in Texas when their Republican father ran against Democrat Al Gore in the 2000 presidential election.
“We were eighteen and he knew how much we just wanted to go to college and live a normal life,” she recalls.
“That was his promise to us: ‘Don’t worry. You can lead a normal life.’ Which turned out not to be true in the end. To be honest, maybe we were all a little naive.’
When President Bush was sworn in in 2001, she was a freshman at the University of Texas at Austin, while her sister attended their father’s alma mater, Yale University.
Bush Hager was so focused on her college life that she ignored a call from actress Katie Holmes, who wanted help preparing for her role in the 2004 film First Daughter.

“I was in the library living a normal life as a freshman,” she explained. “I had a feeling she’d be disappointed with whatever she saw.”
Bush Hager is no stranger to being candid on her daytime NBC show alongside her co-host Kotb.
Earlier this week, Kotb Bush left Hager in disgust after revealing that she’s all for eating under the sheets.
Many people like to snack in bed. I feel you, and I am with you. I think it’s a good idea,’ she let go.
“Disagree,” Bush replied, adding later, “Hoda, you need to stop eating in bed.”
Kotb claimed it’s “cozy” to eat in bed just as Bush Hager pointed out that she was getting crumbs in her sheets.
“Here, I’ll show you what you do,” the mother-of-two said, demonstrating how she took her hand and swept the crumbs from her bed to the floor of her bedroom.
“So that it can be seen all over your New York City apartment where little mice like to come and eat a Ritz cracker,” Bush Hager said, unimpressed.
