Jeff Bezos ‘will NOT bid for the Commanders,’ despite the Amazon billionaire ‘having some interest’

Despite speculation linking him to a purchase of the Washington Commanders, Jeff Bezos is reportedly not interested in making a bid for the team.

According to sources who spoke to Puck News and ESPN, Bezos “is not currently planning” to bid for the NFL franchise.

Bezos had expressed interest in buying the franchise—going so far as to hire a company to research a potential offer—but ultimately never made an offer.

In February, reports claimed that Commanders’ current owner, Dan Snyder, was trying to exclude Bezos from a bid – which sources close to the Snyder family denied.

Bezos owns Amazon and the Washington Post — the latter of which has published many investigative stories in recent years that have led to trouble for the Snijders.

Snyder announced late last year that he is exploring the possibility of selling the embattled team, following investigations into sexual harassment, hostile workplaces and fraud.

The family reportedly placed a value on the commanders of about $7 billion – with the deadline for submitting initial bids passed earlier this year. Forbes has valued the team at approximately $5.6 billion.

Other reported bidders include Josh Harris – the owner of the New Jersey Devils and the Philadelphia 76ers. Harris teams up with DC businessman Mitchell Rales and Basketball Hall-of-Famer Magic Johnson on his bid team.

Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta was rumored to be interested, as was Canadian billionaire Steve Apostolopoulos.

According to Forbes, Bezos has a net worth of about $125 billion. The Commanders finished the 2022 NFL season with an 8-8-1 record and missed the playoffs.

The Commanders went 8-8-1 last season as they narrowly missed the NFL playoffs
