Jean Smart, 71, reveals she underwent ‘successful’ heart procedure… as Hacks season 3 production pauses amid her recovery

Critically acclaimed actress Jean Smart is on the road to recovery after undergoing a recent heart procedure.

Smart, 71, revealed that he was now on the mend when he announced his recent operation on Instagram on Wednesday.

“February is American Heart Month, a time when the nation highlights heart health, so it’s important to share with all of you that I’m recovering from a recent successful heart procedure,” she told her followers.

‘I am fortunate to have excellent professional care and the support of family and friends as I continue to recover. Please listen to your body and talk to your doctor. I’m so glad I did!’

While Smart recovers, production on the third season of his hit series Hacks has gone on hiatus, according to Variety.

Variety reports that the award-winning series has been filming this winter with a premiere date set for later in 2023.

The show, however, will not be eligible for Emmy consideration as it will likely debut after the May 31 eligibility deadline, according to Variety.

Smart won his fourth Emmy Award for the first season of Hacks, which also garnered awards for its writing and directing.

Fans were concerned that the show could end after the emotional season two finale, where the professional relationship between Smart’s characters and Hannah Einbinder ends.

Smart plays a trailblazing comedian named Deborah Vance who, by the start of the show, has adjusted to a comfortable but uninspiring life as a Las Vegas entertainer.

Meanwhile, 27-year-old Einbinder, whose mother Laraine Newman was in the original cast of Saturday Night Live, plays Deborah’s protégé, Ava.

Ava is a rising comedy writer who was canceled shortly before the start of the first season for a joke she made on Twitter.

As Ava fights to save her career and Deborah tries to reinvigorate hers, the older comedian hires the younger man to work for her.

The two women have a combative and initially reluctant professional relationship, but as their mutual respect gradually grows, a relationship forms between them.

By the end of the second season, Ava has helped Deborah develop a comedy special that turns out to be a huge career triumph.

Trying to be magnanimous, Deborah later fires Ava so that the attractive young writer can pursue her own career instead of being consumed by Deborah’s.

It’s raining rave reviews for the second season, with Variety rhapsodizing that ‘he doesn’t miss a beat’, the Washington Post gushing: ‘He’s firing on all cylinders’ and vanity fair saying that it aims ‘higher and deeper’ than the first season.
