JD Sports, Elite Sports and Rangers FC have been fined more than £2 million by the league watchdog after finding they had fixed prices for replica football kits.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said Elite Sports and JD Sports broke the law by fixing the retail prices of Rangers uniforms and other apparel from September 2018 to July 2019.
It said Rangers “only took part in the conspiracy” by fixing the price of adult short-sleeved shirts for adults from September to mid-November in 2018.

JD Sports were fined £1,485 million, Elite Sports £459,000 and Rangers £225,000. The investigation started in December 2020.
Elite made and sold Rangers clothing, such as those worn by ex-player Jermain Defoe. JD was the only major retailer selling it at the time.
The CMA found that Rangers were concerned that JD was selling the top at a lower price than Elite at the start of the 2018-19 season.
This resulted in an agreement that JD would increase its price from £55 to £60 to align with Elite.
Elite and JD also found fixed prices of Rangers clothing over a longer period of time. JD Sports said it will not appeal and had set aside £2million to cover the matter.
