Jay-Z Finally Reveals the TRUTH About How He and Beyonce Chose Daughter Blue Ivy’s Name – and the Name They Originally Chose
After years of speculation, Jay-Z has revealed the adorable true story behind his daughter’s name Blue Ivy.
The legendary rapper, 53, who also shares six-year-old twins Sir and Rumi with Drunk In Love singer Beyoncé, 42, has remained tight-lipped about his 11-year-old’s name until now.
While many had assumed that “Blue” might be the power couple’s favorite color, Jay-Z told 68-year-old Gayle King that this color is actually derived from a nickname they used for their unborn daughter at her first ultrasound.
“Her name would be Brooklyn, that was the name we had in theory,” the artist began.

Her unique nickname was inspired after rapper and wife Beyoncé called her a “little blueberry” for nine months during pregnancy
“But when we got to the ultrasounds, we called her Blueberry, like, ‘Look at the little blueberry.’ You know, it was like a nickname.
“For nine months we were like, ‘Look at the little blueberry.’ So it was just natural. We just took the ‘berry’ out of it and called her Blue.”
In addition to sharing the wholesome origins of Blue Ivy’s name, Jay-Z also admitted that his daughter now sees him as a “cool dad” and comes to him and mom Beyoncé for advice.
“She used to be a little head-on with me,” he told Gayle with a big smile. “But (now) I catch her. I catch her in the corner, you know? Now she’s asking me if this is cool, if her sneakers are cool.’
Gayle stepped in to clarify that she wants her father’s “advice,” to which Jay-Z replied, “Yes, yes, yes.”
“There was a time when she was like, ‘Daaaaad,’” he continued, doing an impression of Blue Ivy covering her face in shame.
‘I am cool. I don’t know what you’re saying,” he hilariously recalled to Blue. ‘I am cool! You have nice parents! At your house your parents are cool.’
Blue’s fame reached stratospheric heights over the summer when she performed alongside her mother on her Renaissance Tour.

She broke the internet several times after being seen dancing flawlessly by her mother’s side.
Jay-Z couldn’t hide his pride, saying in his interview with Gayle, “I still get goosebumps when I see her take the stage… for her to stand on that stage and reclaim her power, and the song is called My Power… you couldn’t write a better script.’
After her eldest daughter’s first performance at a private show in Paris last May, Beyoncé raved about Blue and her performing skills.
“My beautiful firstborn, I am so proud and grateful to be your mother,” the Formation singer wrote in an Instagram post. “You bring us so much joy, my sweet angel.”
Elsewhere in his interview says Jay-Z finally weighed in on the viral debate over whether, given a choice, fans should accept half a million dollars in cash from him or sit down for lunch.
The business mogul insisted he would not tell anyone to “make a bad deal” as he put aside the years-long debate and urged people to take the money.
