Jay Leno’s wife Mavis, who suffers from dementia, was spotted with a black eye during an outing in Los Angeles with the host on Tuesday.
Late night legend Leno, 74, is the caregiver for 77-year-old Mavis and has recently been appointed her conservator.
Mavis, who married Leno in 1980, was seen with a dark bruise around her right eye as she was chauffeured around LA by her devoted husband.
Mavis suffers from such a form of dementia that she sometimes no longer recognizes him or remembers her date of birth, court documents obtained by DailyMail.com revealed earlier this year.
The former Tonight Show host filed a petition in January with a Los Angeles Superior Court seeking to appoint Mavis as a conservator, saying her condition prevents her from managing her own affairs.

In a document supporting Leno’s petition, her court-appointed attorney, Ronald Ostrin, shed new light on Mavis’ declining mental capacity, which brought sorrow to the couple’s otherwise “perfect” marriage of 43 years.
“According to (Mavis’) neurologist, Dr. Hart Cohen, she has advanced dementia and sometimes doesn’t know her husband, Jay, or her date of birth,” Ostrin said.
‘She is very disoriented and is brooding about her parents who have both passed away and her mother who passed away about 20 years ago.’
Dr. Cohen, who was called in to treat Mavis after she was in a car accident in 2018, told Ostrin that Leno “loves his wife very much and he wanted to raise this issue out of respect for her.
“He said that Mr. Leno is such a nice man and that he treats Mavis like gold.”
Leno spoke about their marriage earlier this year at the Feminist Majority Foundation’s 16th Annual Global Women’s Rights Awards & Gala Fox news that he and Mavis are closer than ever.
“We’ve been married 44 years. It gets easier. It doesn’t get harder,” he said.
“We do everything together. I go home every night, make dinner and sit down somewhere. We enjoy each other’s company,” he added.
Leno showed affection to the beaming Mavis as they posed for photos on the red carpet, putting his arm protectively around her shoulder and pulling her toward him.
The couple took to the gala stage later that evening, with Leno holding back tears as he said marrying the philanthropist was “the smartest thing I’ve ever done.”
“We’re having a lot of fun,” he cheered to the crowd.
“People say marriage is hard. I don’t get it. I enjoy her company. I enjoy taking care of her. We have fun.

“She is the most independent woman I have ever known. Again, I couldn’t be more proud of her.”
He added: “I am part of her legacy and that is what I am most proud of.”
Mavis has been a lifelong philanthropist and has chaired the Feminist Majority Foundation’s campaign to end gender apartheid in Afghanistan since 1997.
