Jay Leno drives through LA in his 1957 Buick Roadmaster – one day after being granted conservatorship of dementia stricken wife Mavis

Jay Leno was spotted taking his vintage 1957 Buick Roadmaster for a spin – a day after he was officially granted the conservatorship by his wife Mavis Leno.

The talk show legend, 73, drove around Los Angeles on Wednesday in his sleek, midnight blue car that was once featured on his show, Jay Leno’s Garage.

Leno, dressed in his usual denim look, kept his eyes on the road as he sat in traffic, with one hand on the steering wheel and the other on his face.

It appeared that at one point the star took a phone call while driving down the road with his phone pressed to his ear.

It comes after Leno granted Mavis, 77, a conservatorship due to her ongoing battle with dementia.

People reported that Mavis’ attorney said during a hearing yesterday at Los Angeles Superior Court that she agreed with the conservatorship.

The former Tonight Show host filed a petition with the Los Angeles Superior Court in January to be appointed conservator, saying her condition leaves her unable to manage her own affairs.

In court Tuesday, the judge agreed, saying, “I think she’s in the least restrictive environment. I think she is being well taken care of by Mr. Leno.”

The outlet reported that she confronted Leno and said, “Everything you do is good. I completely understand that this is a difficult time,” before confirming that he was qualified to be her conservator.

Leno also told the court he was doing estate planning and inspecting his wife’s will.

In a filing last week in support of Leno’s petition, her attorney Ronald Ostrin said her declining mental capacity had brought sadness to their otherwise “perfect” marriage of 43 years.

“According to (Mavis’) neurologist Dr. Hart Cohen, she has advanced dementia and sometimes does not know her husband Jay or her date of birth,” Ostrin said.

‘She has a lot of disorientation, worries about her parents who are both deceased and her mother who died about twenty years ago.’

Dr. Cohen told Ostrin that Leno “loves his wife very much and wanted to discuss this matter out of respect for her.”

Ostrin says he has all of Dr.’s medical records. Cohen viewed before speaking privately with Mavis herself.

“We were able to talk for a long time and we discussed her wishes and desires about the procedure (the curatorship) and about her testamentary wishes,” he writes.

‘Mrs. Leno was a wonderful person, and even though it was clear she had a cognitive disability, she still had a charming personality and was able to communicate.”

Dr. Cohen added, “She expressed a desire to vote and told me a little about her philanthropic work.

She had great confidence in Mr. Leno and relied on him for her protection and guidance.”

After completing his investigation into Mavis’ condition and also interviewing Leno, Ostrin supported the comedian’s conservatorship motion.

In a brief exclusive interview with DailyMail.com in January, shortly after filing for the conservatorship, Leno said of Mavis, “She’s doing well, everyone’s doing well, we’re doing well. I just made a will in case something happens.”

In his lawsuit, Leno’s attorneys said Mavis “lacks the necessary capacity to execute the estate plan” because of her “severe neurocognitive impairment (including dementia).”

The legal papers added: ‘Jay is fully capable of continuing his support of Mavis’ physical and financial needs as he has done throughout their marriage.

“Jay wants to execute an estate plan, including a revocable trust and will, that will provide for Mavis and Mavis’ brother and her only living heir besides Jay.”

The couple was spotted at his comedy show in West Hollywood last week, as they were pictured leaving The Improv.

The couple, dressed in casual outfits, appeared to be in good spirits before driving away in Jay’s red sports car.
