Javier Tebas CONDEMNS Federico Valverde for punching Villarreal’s Alex Baena in the face
LaLiga president Javier Tebas CONDEMNS Federico Valverde slapping Villarreal’s Alex Baena in the face… claiming ‘provocation’ over an alleged comment about Real Madrid star’s unborn child ‘is never justification’

- Incident followed accusation Alex Baena made a comment about his unborn child
- The Villarreal player denied as much – and will press charges against Valverde
La Liga president Javier Tebas has condemned Federico Valverde for punching Villarreal player Alex Baena in the face.
Baena is said to have told Valverde earlier this season: “Cry now that your son is not going to be born,” as the Uruguayan and his then-partner were in danger of losing their unborn child. The 21-year-old denies the comment.
Following Real Madrid’s defeat to Villarreal over the weekend, Valverde punched Baena in the face as he boarded the team bus.
With the incident dominating headlines in Spain in recent days, Tebas has spoken out and condemned the Uruguayan’s violent actions – claiming that provocation does not equate to justification.
“The provocation is a mitigation, it is never the justification of the fact,” Tebas said.

Baena denies making comments about Valverde’s family (pictured) earlier this season.
“It will be anti-violence that must impose the corresponding sanctions. It is a reprehensible action.’
Valverde will avoid a sporting penalty after Villarreal decided not to report the incident to the Spanish Football Federation and it was not included in the referee’s report.
However, Baena himself reported the incident to police, amid his own claims that he and his family have received a number of death threats since the incident came to light.
“Last Saturday I was attacked by a fellow professional after the game against Real Madrid,” Baena wrote on social media, as reported by Marka.
“After the event, some statements from his entourage came to light, including that I wished harm on one of his relatives.
Since then, no evidence has been published to substantiate the allegations against me.
Tragedy was used to justify the aggression and there are lies that hurt more than the blows.
“The damage done to my family is irreparable and unjustifiable: threats, insults and even private messages wishing my family dead.
“I filed a police report yesterday. Let justice do its job. My only aim now is to concentrate on my profession and help my club achieve its goals.’
Villarreal confirmed in a statement on Sunday night that the police will now be involved and that this could open the way for Spain’s Anti-Violence Commission to get involved.
Baena had indicated to local journalists on Sunday morning that the case would be closed without further action. But he changed his mind and his club have said they will support him in his decision.
Sunday night’s Villarreal statement read: ‘Villarreal CF player Alex Baena was attacked last night on his way to the team bus after the game against Real Madrid CF at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
“Again, Villarreal CF rejects any act of violence and firmly believes in his player’s version and will support him throughout this process.”
Valverde’s wife, Mina Bonino, posted a message on Twitter addressing Baena’s alleged comment.
She wrote, “Do I have to explain why they told me my pregnancy couldn’t go ahead?”

Alex Baena posted on social media that his family has received death threats
“We were silent for almost two months waiting for the results to know if we could continue, with five months of pregnancy already.
“I’ve been through enough that they’ve come to question me about my son’s health.
“Despite everything, I don’t wish from the bottom of my heart for anyone to experience a similar situation.”
Valverde and Mina’s child is said to be healthy the sun reports that last month she informed followers on Instagram that she was “six months into it.”
The couple already have one son together named Benicio, born in February 2020.
