Jason Sudeikis confirms Ted Lasso WILL end with season three but he’s open to spin-offs of hit show
A week after the trailer was released, Ted Lasso co-creator and star Jason Sudeikis announced that the third season of his critically acclaimed the soccer comedy, premiering March 15 on Apple TV+, will be his last.
“This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we hoped to tell, that we loved to tell,” said the Virginia-born, Kansas-raised 47-year-old. Deadline on Monday.
“The fact that people want more and are curious beyond what they don’t even know yet, since it’s season three, is flattering. Maybe by May 31, once all 12 episodes of the season are completed. [have been released], they’re like, “Man, you know what, we got it, we’re good. We don’t need more, we got it.” But until that time comes, I’ll cherish curiosity beyond what we’ve found so far.
This, after Jason (born Daniel) signed a $1 million per episode contract to reprise his role as American amateur coach AFC Richmond in season three, according to THR.
Sudeikis is definitely open to the idea of a spin-off starring co-stars like Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Hannah Waddingham, Brendan Hunt, Phil Dunster, or Jeremy Swift.
End of an era: Ted Lasso co-creator and star Jason Sudeikis (L) has announced that the third season of his critically acclaimed football comedy will be its last
The Virginia-born, Kansas-raised 47-year-old told Deadline on Monday: “This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we hoped to tell, that we loved to tell.” The fact that people want more and are curious beyond what they don’t even know yet, since it’s season three, is flattering.”
“Yeah, I think we’ve set the stage for all kinds of people…so they can see the additional telling of these stories,” the four-time Emmy winner said.
“Once again, I can’t help but take the question as a compliment for what all of us who were working on the show have tried to do. It’s really nice that people even consider that because you never know what’s going to happen when you do things. The fact that people want more, even if it’s a different track, is lovely.
Fans await a satisfying resolution after the shocking betrayal of AFC Richmond team member turned assistant manager Nathan Shelley (Nick Mohammed), who is now the head coach of rival team West Ham United.
It was even more devious considering that West Ham United owner Rupert Mannion (Anthony Head) was clearly trying to hurt his ex-wife Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham), the owner of AFC Richmond.
A shining moment from the trailer showed Ted, who battled panic attacks in the first two seasons, finally getting a much-needed visit from his son Henry (Gus Turner) with his ex-wife Michelle (Andrea Anders).
Jason will also play an unpredictable director in Charlie Day’s directorial debut, Fool’s Paradise, which hits US theaters May 12, alongside Ray Liotta, Ken Jeong, Kate Beckinsale, Adrien Brody, Common, Edie Falco, John Malkovich and Jason Bateman.
The comedy Roadside Attractions centers on “a down-on-his-luck publicist (Jeong) who discovers a man recently released from a mental health facility (Day) who resembles a methodical actor who refuses to come out of his trailer.”
And last month, Hulu renewed Marvel’s Hit-Monkey, in which Sudeikis voices Bryce, the ghostly hitman of a Japanese snow monkey (Fred Tatasciore), for a second season.
Jason continued: “Maybe by May 31, once all 12 episodes of the season are done. [have been released], they’re like, “Man, you know what, we got it, we’re good. We don’t need more, we got it.” But until that time comes, I’ll welcome curiosity beyond what we’ve found so far’

Jason said: ‘Yeah, I think we’ve set the table for all sorts of people…to be able to see more of these stories being told…The fact that people want more, even if it’s a different avenue is beautiful.’
