Jason Kelce has hit back at trolls on social media after being called ‘hypocritical’ for his views on Harrison Butker’s controversial speech earlier this month.
The kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs sparked major controversy when he told Benedictine College graduates that women should prioritize being a “housewife” rather than pursuing a career, while also focusing on LGBTQ+ community, abortion advocates and more in an opinion-dividing speech.
Jason, who has three young daughters with his wife Kylie, defended Butker, saying he “could find a lot of value in talking about the importance of family and the importance of being a great mother.”
But the recently retired Philadelphia Eagles star also emphasized that parts of Butker’s speech are “not things I connect with.”
That has led to criticism from social media trolls, who accused Kelce of being “hypocritical” and suggested his wife Kylie is “a housewife.”

Kelce, who will work at ESPN next season, hit back Monday morning, defending his relationship with his wife.

‘I don’t consider Kylie a housewife, I consider her my wife. I consider her a mother. She has a profession, just like me, and we maintain our house as best we can.
‘Our marriage is a partnership, we are equals who deal with it every day. The only expectation is that we love each other, support each other and are committed to our family, that is paramount.
‘We both raise our children, we both work, we both have our homes. It’s both our fault that things are messy, but such is life with three young kids, busy schedules, and neither of us are neat freaks. She also makes a mean sandwich.
“If being a housewife works for some, and that’s what they want, then great, more power to you.
“I want to be clear: I’m not downplaying that at all, but that’s not our family dynamic.”
When discussing Butker’s speech with his brother Travis on the latest episode of their New Heights podcast, Jason added that the reactions from the people who actually know Butker, like Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs coach Andy Reid and Travis, more had more value than those on the Internet. .
The retired Eagles center said the saga has made him reflect on his own role as a father
He said: ‘It’s always great to hear from people who actually know people, rather than a group of people replying to comments without actually having met the man.
“I think the reactions of teammates, the reaction of Andy Reid, you learn about people every day. There will always be opinions that everyone shares and that you disagree with.
“Make no mistake, the things he said in the speech are not things I subscribe to. But he gives a speech at a Catholic university and shockingly it turned out to be a very religious speech.
“For me, I can listen and find value in someone talking about the importance of family and the importance of being a great mother – while also realizing that not everyone has to be a housewife if that’s not what they want to do. do in life.
“When you listen to someone, you record what you like, listen to other things and say I’m not that damned.
“I’ve had so many people ask me what you would do if your daughters had to sit there and listen to someone tell them, after they had just graduated, that they should just sign up to be a housewife.
“I would say that if my daughters listen to anyone telling them what to do, that they should be housewives, then I have failed as a father.
‘What the hell are you talking about? I don’t care who’s talking to them, if you have someone on stage saying you can’t do that, and then you’re like, “oh f**k, I guess I’m not a CEO”… then save you don’t!
‘If you don’t like what someone says, all you have to do is say, ‘That guy’s a fucking idiot’ – and then you move on. To be honest, I don’t understand what all the fuss is about.’
Kelce then backtracked by emphasizing that he understands the controversy surrounding Butker’s comments, before making a joke about his wife Kylie when discussing her thoughts on the speech.
“I understand what the fuss is about, because I know that certain groups in this country have been persecuted for a long time,” he continued.
“And women in particular, obviously my wife… I think she was a little frustrated by some of these comments.
“At first I said, listen, you’re going to have to go back to the kitchen and make me a sandwich. I’m listening to the game now.’
The Kelce brothers then burst out laughing before Travis said, “We were doing so well! We were killing it!’
Jason then added, “I hope she didn’t hear that.”
On Friday night, Butker doubled down on his comments, comparing himself to Saint Daniel
On Friday night, Butker doubled down on his comments and compared himself to Saint Daniel during another speech at a Regina Caeli Academy event in Nashville, Tennessee.
He told the event: ‘In recent days my beliefs, or what people think I believe, have been the focus of countless discussions around the world.’
He continued: “In the beginning, many people showed a shocking level of hatred. But as the days passed, even those who disagreed with my views shared their support for my religious freedom.
“As one might expect, the more I have spoken about what I value most, which is my Catholic faith, the more polarizing I have become.”
The kicker went on to say that he had “no regrets at all” about his decision, saying it wasn’t people but Jesus Christ he was trying to please.
