Jason Donovan Says Kylie Minogue Was His First True Love – Before Dumping Him For INXS Rocker Michael Hutchence: ‘We Created Magic Together’
Jason Donovan has admitted that his romance with Kylie Minogue was ‘full on’ and that the pop princess was his first real relationship.
The pair, who met as teenagers while starring on the soap opera Neighbours, dated for five years before splitting in 1989.
The actor, 55, has fond memories of his time with the pop star, 55, as he shared The Sydney Morning Herald on Saturday.
‘I had a number of relationships before I got married. The first real one was with Kylie Minogue from 1984 to 1989,” Jason said.
“That was in full, for obvious reasons,” he added.

“It was amazing and we created magic together on screen — we were boyfriend and girlfriend in Neighbors — and off screen. We’re still good friends.’
The pair reunited last year for the finale episode of Neighbors, reprising their iconic roles as Scott and Charlene Robinson.
In 2012, Jason revealed that he still can’t talk to Kylie about their breakup after taking their on-screen romance off screen.
He admitted it was “a pretty big blow” when the Locomotion singer left him for INXS frontman Michael Hutchence.
“It was an extremely painful farewell to the roads and I have no doubt taken a long time to recover from it,” he told the Mirror.

“It was bad enough that she ran off with anyone, but she just happened to end up in the arms of the greatest rock god of the day, exactly the man I secretly wanted to be.”
He added that he and Kylie had never spoken about their split making headlines, claiming that they’re just “not close enough to get into that.”
Jason previously revealed that he felt like a “little lost boy” when the couple split in 1989.
At the time, he told the Daily telegram he didn’t see the break coming and that he was totally upset when he found out she had fallen for the rocker.

‘I did not expect it. God, I was a big fan of Michael Hutchence at the time,” he said.
‘He was the epitome of the Australian rock god and super cool. It made me look at myself and think, “What am I?”
Michael died in 1997 after being found dead in his Sydney hotel room.
Jason has been married to director Angela Malloch since 2008 and they have two children, daughter Jemma and son Zac.
Kylie, meanwhile, split from British GQ exec Paul Solomons earlier this year after five years together and has since moved from Britain to Australia.
