Jason Day reveals Tigers Woods withdrew from PGA event because a screw punctured his skin

Jason Day reveals Tiger Woods was forced to pull out of a 2022 PGA event because a SCREW from his car accident surgery pierced his skin – as both golfers bomb the Masters

  • Still dealing with those injuries
  • Both Woods and Day had Masters to quickly forget

Australian golfer Jason Day has revealed the extent of golf champion Tiger Woods’ physical pain as both players endured disappointing performances at the 2023 Masters.

Woods was hospitalized in February 2021 following a car accident that left him with significant injuries to his right lower leg.

The severity of his condition was unknown until Day shared more details about the deplorable nature of Woods’ physical condition during the PGA Championship, which led to his withdrawal.

‘I was talking to [Woods] late last year,” Day said Golf. com.

And then he said the reason he pulled out of the PGA was because a screw went through the skin on Saturday or whatever it was. I don’t know how bad it is this time.’

Day was in contention for a top 12 finish before crashing out on the final lap of the Masters

Woods is battling plantar fasciitis in his right foot, which left him with a bad limp and forced him to withdraw from the Masters due to an aggravation of the injury.

Despite suffering from plantar fasciitis and other ailments, Woods had opened the Masters with a two-over-72. However, he struggled in wet and windy conditions during the second round and was forced to retire due to his injuries.

“He looked like he was working pretty hard yesterday,” Day said Sunday morning.

“Obviously it was hard to watch because he had to come out again and play through all that yesterday morning, and then he had to take a little break and come back out and play again.

“It wasn’t the perfect conditions for him to at least get through the round. It’s disappointing, but that’s just kind of, I guess, where we’re at with what his body looks like right now. … You can all see how he feels on TV. I don’t know what he feels inside, how bad it is.’

Woods himself did not comment, but issued a brief statement to his fans on social media that read, “I am disappointed to have to go to WD this morning as my plantar fasciitis has worsened again. Thank you to the fans and to @TheMasters who have shown me so much love and support. Good luck to the players today!’

Day had been battling to finish in the top 12 at the Masters, but suffered a shocking slump on the final day, hitting four double bogeys in his last 10 holes.

Day’s collapse in the final round left him tied for 39th, a disappointing end to what had been a promising tournament for the resurgent star.

After top-20 finishes in all seven of his 2023 PGA Tour events, Day arrived at Augusta as one of the outside contenders.

He lived up to that bill by soloing second at nine under par late in Friday’s second round before a watery double-bogey on the 15th caused his slide.

Adam Scott, the 2013 Masters champion, also struggled at the tournament, tying with Day at five after weekend rounds of 77 and 74.

Any hopes of a last-day attack from Scott ended on the 15th round of the third round when he threw two balls into the water on his way to a triple-bogey eight.

For Woods, the worsening of his plantar fasciitis has cast further doubt on his ability to compete at the highest level of the sport.
