Jared Goff agrees $212MILLION, four-year extension with Detroit Lions – making him a better paid quarterback than Patrick Mahomes!

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff has agreed to a four-year extension worth $212 million, making him the highest-paid player in franchise history.

Last season, Goff led the Lions to the brink of the Super Bowl before the team lost the Conference Championship game to the San Francisco 49ers.

Under the terms of the deal, Goff could make $53 million per year — more than Patrick Mahomes currently takes home at $45 million per season on his 10-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Last week, Lions general manager Brad Holmes said another extension for Goff was a high priority for him.

“He’s earned an extension,” Holmes said in a radio interview with 97.1 The Ticket. ‘It is important.

‘It is a high priority for us. Both parties are working very, very hard. These things just take time.”

Goff is approaching the final season of a four-year, $134 million contract he signed before being traded to Detroit in the QB swap that sent Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams. The expansion has been in the works for months.

Goff, a former No. 1 overall pick who turns 30 in October, has been making an average of $33.5 million annually on his existing contract, while the market has exploded since massive deals last season raised the bar above $50 million per season.

The highest paid quarterback in terms of average salary per season is Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals at $55 million.

He has $1.01 million more in guaranteed salary than the Los Angeles Chargers gave to Justin Herbert, whose AAV is $52.5 million, in the same area but just ahead of Jalen Hurts (Philadelphia Eagles) and Lamar Jackson (Baltimore Ravens).
