Japanese Grand Prix race – F1: Live timing and lap-by-lap updates as Max Verstappen looks to convert pole position into a race win

While Red Bull’s off-track drama continues, they remain the dominant force on track, as evidenced by qualifying for today’s race.

Max Verstappen took four poles in as many races, although teammate Sergio Perez – who had not been on the front row for the previous twenty races – was incredibly close to his teammate.

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell are feeling better about their Mercedes challenger this weekend, although that wasn’t exactly reflected in terms of their grid placement for today’s race.

Meanwhile, it was Lando Norris who was the best of the rest, finishing ahead of Ferrari, Aston Martin, Mercedes and his teammate Oscar Piastri.
