Jane said her “whole house smells of smoke” after she returned on Thursday, having rushed to evacuate the property late last Monday night.
“I literally just had jeans and a sweater, which I’ve been wearing for four days and sleeping at different people’s houses,” Jane explained on the red carpet of the British American Business Council’s (BABC) annual Christmas lunch.
‘On Monday evening at 10:50 pm we received a call from my partner, John Zambetti’s son Johnny, who was at Serra Retreat.
“(He) saw a glow behind the curtains, opened the windows, saw flames 10 feet high and immediately called us and said, ‘Get out.’ Go away’.
‘That’s why we all got away just in time.
“The fire brigade was incredible and the fire reached within inches of the property and they saved so many lives and I am forever grateful and shocked. I ran out of the house with only the clothes I was wearing.

Hollywood star Dick Van Dyke, who turned 99 on Friday, and pop superstar Cher were among the stars forced to leave their homes.
Accepting the LA Icon honor at the BABC event in Los Angeles, Jane said: ‘This is a huge honour, and after the week we’ve had with the fires coming right up to my house, I could I can’t even imagine having clothes on, let alone coming to talk to anyone about anything.’
On the red carpet, Jane said the fire “didn’t attack the house” because “the fire trucks came right away and we were rescued.”
“The whole house smells like smoke, but we are so grateful,” she said.
‘The work the fire brigade has done is incredible. If you are where I live, and you look up the hill, and every house the fire came within an inch of the house.
‘To me it is absolutely incomprehensible that so few buildings have been burned.’
In her speech, Jane also added that she feels “incredibly blessed” to still be able to work at the age of 73.
She added, “I don’t know how that works because usually you turn 40 and you’re a woman and you’re too old. But when I was 40, I got a little thing called Dr. Quinn, and that really saved my life – I was very lucky.”
Jane starred opposite the late Sir Roger Moore as James Bond in 1973’s Live And Let Die – his first as an MI6 agent.
She said, “We all got away just in time. The fire service was incredible and I am forever grateful and shocked. I ran out of the house with only the clothes I was wearing
