Jane Seymour praises the power of authenticity as she reflects on her successful career.
Speak with People at The Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment Gala, she offered some of the wisdom she’s picked up throughout her career.
“Don’t take it for granted. It is not easy,” she told the newspaper on Wednesday. ‘The balance between how you come across and how you behave is unfortunately enormous.’
Seymour, 73, also emphasized the importance of perseverance as she advised older actresses to stay true to themselves and not pretend to be in their twenties.
‘But I never gave up either. I now have my own series again and I’m in my 70s,” continued Jane, who is currently starring in Harry Wild.
“So I say to women, ‘Don’t give up and be authentic.’ Don’t pretend you’re twenty when you’re seventy. Be seventy.’

Jane was among a slew of stars who attended the soiree, including Selena Gomez, who was honored with the Equity in Entertainment Award.
Not only is the entertainment industry impressed with Selena, but also with Seymour.
“I just saw Selena’s movie last night,” the Dr. said. Quinn Medicine Woman star to People of Selena’s new movie, Emilia Perez. ‘I was blown away. They were all incredible. There are so many great young actresses… she’s being honored today for a very good reason. Crossing genres and doing both is fantastic.”
The talented actress Seymour currently stars in the Irish drama series Harry Wild, which has been broadcast since 2022.
Seymour is a former Emmy winner herself, as she won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or a Special at the 1988 Primetime Emmys for her role as Maria Callas in Onassis: The Richest Man in the World.
She is also the mother of six adult children: Jenni, 44, Katherine, 42, Sean, 39, Kalen, 56, and twins John and Kristopher, 29.

The Somewhere in Time actress’s most recent romance prior to musician was with film producer David Green, as they were together for almost a decade.
Seymour told The times in April 2023 that Green, 76, had proposed to her in the past, but she felt exchanging vows with him “would be the most horrible thing in the world” in terms of the dynamics of their relationship.
She added, “I just said I would never put a song in his name.”

Seymour has been married four times in the past: to Michael Attenborough between 1971 and 1973; Geoffrey Planer between 1977 and 1978; David Flynn, from 1981 to 1992; and James Keach from 1993 to 2015.
She told The Times that despite the divorces, she remained “very, very close to every man I was married to and every man I ever dated.”
“Every time I see someone I’ve been in a relationship with, even for a short time, I feel close to them. See, I think it’s hard to be with someone who’s famous and on the red carpet.”
Speaking to People in 2012, Seymour said the biggest lesson she took from her marriage was to “let go” of painful things and “try to find a way to communicate and keep the good in the relationship.”
