Jane McDonald reveals she has no plans to date again after the death of her fiancé Eddie Rothe

Jane McDonald has admitted that she has no plans to date again because she doesn’t want to “settle down” following the death of her fiancé Eddie Rothe.

The presenter, 59, said that although she does not rule out dating again, she is “quite happy” with her life and has no plans for another relationship.

But she went on to reflect on how “grateful” she is to have the “best” relationship with Eddie, who died at 67 of lung cancer in March 2021.

Jane, who is nominated for the national treasure gong at the 2022 Entertainment Daily Awards, said ED!: ‘The last thing I want to do is settle down again, because the girls and I can go out and do things and go wherever we want.

‘That’s something I’ve learned with pain, when you’re alone, you don’t have to worry about committing yourself.

“I’m not saying I’ll never date again, but I’m pretty happy with my life and it’s turned out, I mean, I definitely had the best [with Ed] and I am very grateful that I had the best.’

Jane said she is married to her job and insisted that finding a man is not on her priority list as she spoke about next year, which will see her 60th birthday.

Speaking about her milestone birthday, Jane said she’s seizing the occasion and feels like she’s only getting younger.

Looking ahead, the singer admitted that she has no intention of leaving any money behind, saying she plans to spend a lot because she wants to “have fun.”

Jane also shut down the rumors that she would be retiring, saying that she is currently knocking her socks off after her Let The Light In Tour came to an end after the summer.

She insisted that she plans to think about touring again in the future, after potentially focusing on television and taking a short break next year.

Elsewhere in the interview, Jane also admitted that she went through a “very dark” time after losing her fiancé Ed in March of last year.

But she said she’s finally in a better place in the midst of her grief journey, saying she had to learn to have a different life after the loss of her partner.

Eddie proposed to Jane on Christmas Eve 2008, after becoming a couple earlier that year.

The couple were together briefly years before, breaking up in 2002 before rekindling the romance six years later, but never getting the chance to tie the knot before her tragic passing.

His latest comments come after Jane said he is “much better” a year after the death of Eddie, who was the drummer for the 1960s band The Searchers.

In November, Jane detailed her journey in grief as she thanked loved ones for helping her during an appearance on Loose Women.

Jane, who recently moved in with her best friend, said: “I’m much better and you realize how important your family and friends are.” Now I have more good days than bad and I enjoy them now.

“I was very lucky, I’ve always had a very busy life without a partner, so I was able to carry on and my fans were just amazing.” They helped me a lot during the tour, so I am very grateful.

She added: “When you lose a lot of love, I lost my mom and Ed, and you just think, ‘I’ll never fill that void again,’ but you do. It comes from other places, and so you have to let the light in and that’s what I am doing.’

Jane also revealed that her niece has paid a touching tribute to Ed, naming her son after him, and said she is delighted with the new arrival.
