Jane Fonda announced that her cancer is now in remission and doctors have told her she can stop chemotherapy treatment before her 85th birthday next week.

The Barbarella star, who turns 85 on December 21, revealed the happy news to her fans via her website on Thursday, calling it “the best birthday present ever.”

“Last week my oncologist told me my cancer is in remission and I can stop chemotherapy,” he wrote in a lengthy post.

In September, Fonda, who had previously battled the disease, announced that she had cancer after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, but told fans at the time that she felt “lucky” because it is “so treatable.”

The thrice-married star said in her latest health update: ‘I feel so blessed, so lucky. I thank all of you who prayed and sent me good thoughts. I’m sure it played a part in the good news.’

“I’m especially happy because while my first 4 chemo treatments were pretty easy for me, just a few days of exhaustion, the last chemo session was tough and lasted 2 weeks, making it very difficult to accomplish anything.”
