An incredulous Whit asked, “How did you keep this a secret?”

“I had to,” she replied when a cover of herself appeared on the screen in People Magazine.

“I’ve manifested this,” the mother-to-be said.

Janai and her husband are already the parents of a five-year-old son and a three-year-old daughter.

The news personality prefers to keep their names private.

In an interview with Peoplerevealed to the newscaster that she is currently 10 weeks along and some viewers had guessed she was pregnant before she knew it.

“The Saturday before I found out, there were two different viewers commenting in some places saying, ‘Hey, is Janai pregnant? ‘ she revealed.

“And even that day when I found out, I posted a photo that said ‘Caption this’ and someone said ‘Surprise pregnancy.’ I don’t know what it is, but some viewers just know, so I’m pleased to confirm.”

Janai’s two children were born at home with the help of midwives and doulas, and she has the same plans for baby number three.

The happy news comes as Janai reports on the high maternal mortality rate in the US, which affects women of color the most.

Figures from 2021 indicated that 32.9 women per 100 thousand died of a maternal death. Those deaths have increased significantly compared to 2020 and 2019.

For black women, that number rose to 69.9 per 100,000. Maternal mortality for all races has increased significantly, according to data from the CDC.

The reasons for the large differences include the preference for black women and the lack of access to care. Women who do not receive antenatal care are three to four times more likely to die.

“While I was doing that report, I found out I was pregnant. Of course it then takes a much more personal toll. Those numbers are real. It would be foolish to think I’m somehow above that or it couldn’t happen to me,” she said.
