In what is seen as a decisive step to combat drug trafficking in Jammu, the government here will issue notices for verifying the sources of properties of those convicted under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, they said officials.
These guidelines were issued by District Magistrate Sachin Kumar Vaishya to Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) at a district-level committee meeting under Narco Coordination Center (NCORD).
SDMs should issue notices for identifying the sources of properties of convicts under NDPS, Vaishya said.
Senior Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar and Additional Deputy Commissioner (LO) Ansuya Jamwal, SDMs and other concerned officials were present at the meeting.
Stressing the urgency of the situation, the DM urged the SDMs to invoke the NDPS Act to combat the menace.
The District Magistrate discussed strategic measures to deter persons involved in drug trafficking and emphasized the importance of identifying drug hotspots in the district.
The SDMs were instructed to conduct thorough assessments to identify areas of concentrated drug-related activity.
Vaishya also emphasized the need for a proactive attitude and urged the SDMs to hold regular meetings within their jurisdictions.
“A consistent vigil is critical in our fight against narcotics. Regular meetings will ensure a sustained and coordinated effort,” he said, underlining the commitment to a comprehensive approach in the fight against drug-related crimes.
