‘I’m sure his agent couldn’t believe it’: Jamie Redknapp reveals he ‘never thought he’d see’ Wout Weghorst in a Manchester United shirt after his surprise loan spell from Burnley
Jamie Redknapp has admitted that he never expected to see Wout Weghorst in a Manchester United shirt during his career.
The 30-year-old striker completed his move to Manchester United on Friday, having spent on loan at Besiktas from Burnley.
The Dutch international was effective at Turkish club Besiktas but scored just two goals in 20 appearances for Burnley as the club were relegated from the Premier League.

Despite his problems at Burnley, Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag has recruited the former Claret to help him out at the No. 9 position for the rest of the season following Cristiano Ronaldo’s acrimonious departure.
Although Sky Sports pundit and former midfielder Jamie Redknapp was surprised Weghorst has joined United, he nevertheless felt he could be a great addition to help United in the second half of the campaign.
“Any center forward wants him to be a focal point when he has it and when he doesn’t, he wants him to understand the press,” Redknapp said before his debut.

Redknapp, a former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder, feels he adds a different dimension to United in attack.
Weghorst made his United debut in the Premier League at Crystal Palace on Wednesday.
He has good players around him. He’s going to have (Bruno) Fernandes play one-two against him. Good coaches keep picking him up in squads and internationally. It’s a dream come true for this guy.
“We’ve seen it before, some signings really work for a team. It gives you options, set pieces for and against.
The 9s are out of fashion, there are not many in world football. He and (Erling) Haaland are scoring goals. Everybody wants a number 9 because it gives you something different.’
Weghorst has also previously admitted that he and girlfriend Nikki van Esch were “a bit surprised” when they learned of Manchester United’s interest in signing him on loan.
“More than a week ago,” Weghorst said when asked when he heard United were interested in signing him.
“My agent called me for the first time and I was with my girl, and she was kind of shocked because she saw my face and I was like ‘ugh’.”
