Jamie Redknapp insists Tottenham ‘DIDN’T deserve to beat Liverpool’ after last-minute victory… as the pundit claims Ange Postecoglou ‘will believe he can do no wrong’

Jamie Redknapp has insisted Tottenham ‘didn’t deserve’ to beat Liverpool in Saturday’s controversial evening kick-off.

Spurs emerged 2-1 winners after a thrilling match in north London, capitalizing on a late Joel Matip own goal to leave the Reds down to nine men after two red cards.

Curtis Jones was sent off in the first half following a VAR review for a heavy challenge on Yves Bissouma, before Diogo Jota was shown two quick yellow cards with 20 minutes to go.

Liverpool almost held on and even had a goal disallowed for offside, despite goalscorer Luis Diaz being clearly offside. PGMOL has since apologized to Liverpool.

But it was Tottenham who took the three points from the match and moved up to second place in the Premier League, ending Liverpool’s unbeaten run. But Redknapp, speaking to Sky Sports, insisted they were lucky to do so.

“I don’t think Spurs deserved to win today, I have to be honest,” he said. ‘I thought they were very lucky, a few VAR decisions went well, but they now have a nice habit of scoring last-minute winners.

‘They did it against Sheffield United, they did it again today, there’s a bit of belief, there’s a lot of confidence. I think towards the end of that game they were struggling to beat Liverpool and it was a cruel, cruel moment for Joel Matip, but that’s football sometimes.

‘(It was) A big three points for Spurs. Ange Postecoglou will now believe he can do no wrong.”

Liverpool tightened up at the back after losing two players. By the end of the match, all attackers were eliminated and there were five defenders and three midfielders on the pitch.

For the most part they kept their hosts at bay, with most of the football played in a crowded center of the park before the winner arrived from a Pedro Porro cross.

The Reds still tried to win the match through set pieces, but it was a step too far. Andros Townsend, also speaking on behalf of Sky, applauded Liverpool’s efforts but disagreed with his colleague Redknapp on the outcome.

“Just look at the pictures, absolutely sensational,” he said. ‘Liverpool continue with their tactics. They ended up in two banks of four and relied on Salah’s pace. I thought they might take this. Spurs were forced wide. Tottenham switched to the big men. One last effort, a low cross causes chaos and Spurs earn a deserved win.’
