Jamie Redknapp claims Old Trafford is ‘a graveyard for great players’ as he suggests Man United are ‘going backwards’ and have hit ‘rock bottom’ after Tottenham defeat
Jamie Redknapp has suggested Manchester United’s Old Trafford is ‘a graveyard for great players’ after the Red Devils’ 3-0 defeat to Tottenham.
Spurs were in complete control of the match in Manchester on Sunday afternoon and should have been more than 1-0 up when United captain Bruno Fernandes was sent off in the 42nd minute for a foul on James Maddison.
Brennan Johnson gave Spurs the lead in the third minute after a stunning assist from Micky van de Ven.
Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke then scored goals against United’s ten men in the second half, but Spurs also missed several big chances to score more.
Sunday’s result left United with just seven points from their first six Premier League games this season, and Redknapp did not hold back in his criticism.

“I’ve seen a lot of performances where managers suddenly lose their jobs and that’s the kind of performance that kills the manager,” Redknapp told SkySports.
‘If your club is actively looking for another manager you are in a hugely untenable position because the players know you are not the right man. You cannot keep the manager after searching for other managers.
‘They play like they’re lost. The players they brought in don’t look good. This club has attacking DNA. I see too many players not putting in that extra effort. That’s not how this club was built.
‘I don’t see how he can keep his job with these performances. I don’t know how he can turn it around. I know he won two trophies last year, but I don’t know how he can take them further, but I don’t know who that is.
‘They’ve scored five goals in six games, Man United. This is a graveyard for great players. Everyone who comes here goes downhill. Everyone is so devoid of trust and faith.”
Redknapp could not hold back in his analysis of the match.

He added: “It gets to the point where you almost feel sorry for the manager, he’s looking out of his depth.
‘It was so easy for Tottenham. Having spent £616 million, I feel like United are going backwards. They are at a low point right now.
‘It’s embarrassing. A club of this stature should not be producing such performances. They don’t want it enough.’
