A predator who broke into a family’s home in the dead of the night before creeping into an eight-year-old girl’s bedroom, touching her and whispering in her ear has pleaded guilty to a raft of charges.

CCTV footage of the shocking intrusion shows Jamie Phillip Mongoo enter the property in Geraldton, Western Australia, between 12am and 2am on June 2 this year.

Mongoo, a 33-year-old father, then snuck into the child’s bedroom and climbed up a ladder and into her loft bed before touching her arm and back.

‘Stop it, you’re scaring me. Go away,’ the girl told him.

The child's mother thought her daughter had a bad dream until she checked CCTV footage the next morning

Mongoo complied, but then stood motionless in her room before climbing into the bed a second time – and whispered something she couldn’t understand.

The girl told him ‘I don’t like it, go away’, before her mother was woken to the sound of her voice and the intruder fled, The West Australian reported.

The mother consoled on her daughter and thought she had simply had a bad dream – until she checked the home’s CCTV footage the next morning and made the chilling discovery.

She was horrified to see a man entering her home through an unlocked door and creeping into her daughter’s bedroom.

‘I felt nausea and anger all at once when I first saw that my CCTV had captured someone right outside my kid’s bedroom,’ the mother told the paper.

‘I had expected to put her mind at ease by showing her there was nothing, only to discover that her nightmare was our reality. I can’t put into words how relieved I am that I’d just installed cameras.’

Police were unable to identify Mongoo, a former ice cream factory worker, but he was later arrested after an anonymous tip off.

The mother said the fact her daughter was in a loft bed may have saved her because Mongoo couldn’t easily reach in while standing on the ladder.

She praised her daughter for standing up for herself and urged other parents to teach their children to do the same.

‘I never thought this could happen to my family, but it did and despite the trauma, I am mostly left feeling incredibly proud of my daughter and how she reacted … Teach children how to ask for help and how to stand up for themselves,’ she said.

Mongoo appeared in Geraldton Magistrates Court by video on Monday and faced a total of 27 charges relating to three separate incidents.

The other two incidents related to an alleged aggravated home burglary in Spalding and stealing and an alleged home burglary in Waggrakine.

He was remanded in custody and is due to face court again in November.
