‘Drunk driver’ who killed South Carolina bride minutes after her wedding whines that she is ‘a lonely alcoholic’ in self-pitying jailhouse phone call

The “drunk driver” who killed a South Carolina bride minutes after her wedding was caught whining about being “a lonely alcoholic” during a self-pitying phone call in jail.

In a call obtained by the New York Post Beginning on December 11, just months before she was released on $150,000 bond, Jamie Lee Komoroski, 26, spoke to her sister Kelsi and confessed to her addiction.

“I consider myself an alcoholic because I was always trying to do anything that made me feel different or distracted me from what I should be feeling,” she said by phone.

‘I just didn’t think life had any meaning. I was extremely lonely and had no life. I could never just sit with my thoughts,” she continued.

On April 28, 2023, Komoroski, three times over the limit after a day of bar hopping, plowed into a golf cart carrying newlyweds Aric, 37, and Samantha Hutchinson, 34, during their beach wedding ceremony on Folly Beach, South Carolina.

The vehicle was thrown 100 meters and overturned several times. The couple were rushed to hospital, but Hutchinson succumbed to her injuries and died in her wedding dress.

Her husband was left with serious injuries and underwent two reconstruction operations, but also suffered numerous broken bones and brain injuries.

In an interview with Good Morning America, Hutchinson’s widow, Aric, recalled their last moments together before the fatal crash.

“The last thing I remember her saying was that she wanted the night to never end,” he said.

The next thing he knew, he was at the hospital asking where his wife was.

“Then my mother told me there was an incident and Sam didn’t make it,” he told ABC.

Komoroski has been charged with one count of driving under the influence causing death, two counts of driving under the influence causing serious bodily injury and one count of reckless homicide.

However, the couple was not mentioned at all by Komoroski during her numerous phone calls.

Aric filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Komoroski, seeking unspecified damages from the driver and the bars that served her.

In his case, filed in Charleston, he alleged that Komoroski “jumped on a bar” before getting behind the wheel.

He is also suing the five bars she is accused of visiting, claiming they served Komoroski alcohol even though she was visibly drunk.

Komoroski’s blood alcohol content was 0.261 – more than three times the limit – and she was uncooperative with authorities when she was arrested.

She admitted that she had two drinks an hour before the crash: a beer and a tequila-pineapple cocktail.

Komoroski was featured in exclusive photos obtained by DailyMail.com after his father Charles escorted his hooded daughter out of jail on March 1.

On March 4, he was seen removing packing boxes from the luxury two-bedroom apartment where Komoroski will be “confined” for $1,900 a month until her trial – a date yet to be set.

Under the strict conditions of her bond, Komoroski cannot leave her apartment for anything other than “medical emergencies” or court-ordered dates.

She must wear a GPS and SCRAM ankle bracelet – a device that monitors alcohol consumption every thirty minutes by monitoring sweat.

Her mother Traci, 60, father Charles, 60, and brother, also Charles, 23, seemed relaxed and cheerful as they carried new belongings to her new pad.

While they were doing this, Komoroski was spotted working out on her balcony, determined to get back into her pre-prison shape.

A video, exclusively obtained by DailyMail.com, showed her performing a series of exercises including Jumping Jacks and Goblet Squats.

Komoroski failed to bond last August when her lawyers presented a slew of reasons why she was not a flight risk and suggested she be released into the care of her mother in New Jersey and undergo rehabilitation for an alcohol problem .

The Charleston County judge at the time denied bail and included a stipulation that Komoroski would be released on a $150,000 bond if she was still awaiting trial in March 2024, but that she would have to remain in Charleston County.

During another prison call, Komoroski was heard listing things she would like to do once she is free, such as seeing the Northern Lights and visiting the Harry Potter exhibition.

‘We have to do that. You get wands… and pretend we’re wizards,” she told her brother during a Dec. 6 conversation.

Another audio recording released by the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office revealed that Komoroski is planning her own wedding… even though she has to wait until at least 2048 before tying the knot.

“I want you to be at my wedding,” Komoroski told her father during the phone call.

“I want you to walk down the aisle with me. I want you to be with me. I want to go for a walk with you.’

It is understood that Komoroski is still dating her boyfriend Evan Tatro, with the two continuing their relationship over the phone.

If convicted, Komoroski faces up to 25 years in prison for the bride’s death, plus a fine of up to $25,100, and an additional 15 years and $10,100 for the serious injury caused to the men in the gold cart .
