Jamie Foxx to address his ‘serious health scare’ during three one-man shows in Atlanta

Jamie Foxx prepares to discuss the mysterious health issue that landed him in an Atlanta hospital in 2023 and nearly cost him his life.

And now, just days after announcing last week that he planned to open up about his near-death experience and more in a one-man show, the actor, singer and comedian wrote on Instagram, “WHAT HAPPENED, WAS” in a simple black box.

The promo then transitioned to the caption, revealing that “Foxx takes the stage to share his experiences dealing with a serious health crisis, full of humor, heart and inspiration!”

The story continues: ‘Experience Jamie Foxx like you’ve never seen him before in this intimate and immersive performance, where he candidly shares his struggles, successes and everything in between.’

The 56-year-old Terrell, Texas, native promises his fans to “get ready for an evening of laughter, reflection and genuine connection.”

Jamie Foxx, 56, promises to reveal all the details about his mysterious medical emergency last year that landed him in an Atlanta hospital in a one-man show he performed three times in October

The concert ends with the announcement of the three consecutive dates he will perform in Atlanta: October 3, 4 and 5, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The promo post doesn’t detail specific locations and ticket details yet, but we expect full ticket information to be released soon.

As reported in many publications, Foxx was rushed to the hospital in April 2023 due to a medical complication.

In the 16 months since then, the Academy Award-winning actor has shared only bits and pieces of information about what happened, but he hasn’t divulged all the major details.

One such time, at the Critics Choice Association Awards last December, he confessed that he nearly lost his life during the medical emergency.

About a month later, in February, at the 7th Annual AAFCA Special Achievement Awards, he announced that he would finally discuss his health journey in a stand-up comedy special.

“Everybody wants to know what happened and I’m going to tell you what happened, but I’ve got to do it my way,” he said at the time, while accepting the AAFCA’s Producers Award for his company Foxxhole Productions.

More recently, last June, in a video call with PeopleThe Ray star said his emergency began with a “severe headache” in April 2023.

The Oscar-winning actor went back into promotional mode for his upcoming one-man shows in Atlanta, where he suffered a life-threatening medical emergency in April 2023

Foxx then promised to “take the stage to share his journey through serious health issues, with humor, heart and inspiration!” from October 3-5 at a location to be announced soon.

The Texas native previously revealed that his medical emergency began with a “severe headache” and subsequently left him out of action for “20 days”

About two weeks ago, Foxx began promoting his shows in an August 16 social media post.

“They got peaches in Georgia and they got angels too. I’m coming to talk about some of them angels,” he wrote in another black box, along with the three show dates. “October 3rd, 4th, and 5th #igotastorytotell.”

In the caption, he explained, “I have a few people I have to thank so much. If you were in Atlanta around that time and you rocked with me the whole time, let me thank you personally,” which sounds like he’s talking about the medical staff who actually helped save his life.

“I asked my boy for an Advil,” Foxx said, just before snapping his fingers to indicate how quickly it took him to pass out. “I was gone for 20 days. I don’t remember anything. So they told me — I’m in Atlanta — so they told me my sister and my daughter took me to the first doctor. … They gave me a cortisone shot.”

After mentioning Georgia’s famous peaches, Foxx revealed that the state also has angels, whom he will address during his one-man show, along with the hashtag: ‘#igotastorytotell’

With a nod to those angels from Georgia, Ray’s star plans to give a huge thank you to these lifesavers

No further information has been released yet regarding the location of his one-man shows

Eventually, doctors told the father of two that there was “something going on up there,” with Foxx pointing to his head and adding, “I won’t say it on camera.”

Foxx was filming the Netflix action comedy Back In Action with Cameron Diaz at the time of the terrifying incident.

Since the film had only just wrapped filming at that point, director Seth Gordon decided to use body doubles for the remaining scenes.

Back In Action, starring Glenn Close, Kyle Chandler, Andrew Scott and Jamie Demetriou, will be released on Netflix streaming platform on January 17, 2025.
