Jamie Elliott has put his name in the hat for the title of the year with a spectacular performance for Collingwood against Essendon on Anzac Day.
Midway through the third quarter, Elliott leapt onto Ben McKay’s shoulders to claim the ball at full speed in one of the greatest moments in the history of the prestigious game.
He timed his jump to perfection, using the 202cm Bombers star as leverage to get up and take the foot.
His effort became all the more impressive when he calmly shot into his regular goal.
‘How about that for an Anzac Day spectacle! That’s as good as it gets. About Ben McKay’s colossal body. Wow!’ said James Brayshaw.
“We’ve seen some large tracks on this property, none bigger than that.”
‘Which was a huge highlight for everyone who watched it. Just a great football moment,” said Brian Taylor, comparing Elliott’s performance to former Essendon star Gary Moorcroft’s famous performance.
“Andrew Walker, a similar one on the other side of 50. That was as good as you can get. Full climb and full stretch on a guy who is also 7 feet tall,” Dale Thomas added.
“When Ben McKay came into the game and was thinking about Anzac moments, he didn’t expect to end up on a poster.”
Meanwhile, Essendon legend Jobe Watson said: ‘He needed his passport because he’s going international.’
