- Jame Carragher has criticized Manchester United after their 7-0 loss to Liverpool
- The former Liverpool defender praised the Merseyside club for being ‘so good’
- He said the big win “will give the Reds a big boost to get them into the top four.”
Jamie Carragher has claimed that Liverpool’s huge 7-0 win against Manchester United will give them a “big boost” to their hopes of breaking into the top four this season.
The win moves Liverpool to fifth in the Premier League, just two points behind Tottenham, who currently sit last in the Champions League, and Liverpool’s seven goals tonight also helped increase their goal difference by above that of the Spurs.
Despite a difficult season, Jurgen Klopp’s side could now launch a late attack into the top four, and this result will certainly give them plenty of confidence to do so.
After the match, the former Liverpool defender was on hand to give his thoughts on the game, praising his former team for their excellent performance, reminiscent of Klopp’s teams of years past.
“Manchester United were so bad in the second half and Liverpool were so good,” Carragher told Sky Sports. “Liverpool felt like it did a few years ago.
‘[It was] just a shock for Manchester United. When you see Liverpool put on a performance like that, you think how they’ve been so bad for much of the season.
“It’s an embarrassing result for United, when you win by six or seven, it’s almost as if United became history.”
“For Liverpool, it gives them a huge boost to get them into the top four. To be in the top four will be huge in terms of recruiting.
“Next week in Bournemouth will not be easy, and then they will have a really difficult week.”
