Jamie Carragher says Everton made the ‘right decision’ sacking Frank Lampard

Jamie Carragher has insisted that Everton made “the right decision” in sacking Frank Lampard.
Lampard was relieved of his duties as Toffees boss today by phone call after less than a year in charge, leaving the club 19th in the Premier League winless in 10 games.
Carragher, speaking on Sky Sports, lamented the impact of the new signings under Lampard but insisted he must take the blame.
Frank Lampard was sacked by Everton today after less than a year in charge of the club.
Lampard’s last game as Everton manager was a 2-0 loss to West Ham on Saturday.
“I think it’s the right decision,” he began. “I think Frank got the job thanks to Rafa Benítez having a similar career, with them bottom of the league except Southampton, I don’t think Frank can have too many complaints.
You haven’t spent a lot of money. They lost Richarlison, who was their best player last season. When you look at the attacking players that he has bought in Dele Alli and Donny van de Beek, they weren’t really a success.
He brought McNeil and Maupay, they haven’t done anything.
‘The defensive signings have been good, but the attackers haven’t done enough.

The former Liverpool defender, who is famous for being a former Everton supporter, has piled on the board for the management of the club.
He added: ‘I’ve said it before, Everton are the worst club in the country. I’m not saying this as a former Liverpool player, I’m saying this as a former Everton fan. Why do all Everton managers fail?
‘You’ve had a promising young English manager, a Champions League winner in Rafa Benítez, Marco Silva. But there’s a big divide between (Farhad) Moshiri and Bill Kenwright. What is Kenwright’s role in the soccer club?
“Everton board issued a statement before the Southampton game saying there were threats, that’s out of place, but board should have been at the game.” The statement they issued was misplaced. He demonized the entire fan base.
“You don’t do that, especially in the city we’re from, in Liverpool you support your loved ones, whether it’s your family or your football club.” Those followers kept them last year. Until the board changes, I don’t see the fans going sideways again. They have no idea which way they are going.
Lampard is the fourth Everton manager to leave the club unsuccessfully in the last four years.
Meanwhile, Gary Neville echoed Carragher’s views, criticizing the board for allowing ‘failure years’ at the club, despite the money invested in the team.
He pointed to the size of the club compared to other Premier League teams, insisting they shouldn’t be anywhere near the trouble they are in.
He said: ‘I look at Everton, even two or three years ago, they were cleaning up the science department. They were blaming the soldiers instead of the generals.
‘I say they are a team to watch every year, you always think they are going to do well with the money they have spent. If you have seven, eight, nine years of failure, you have to stop looking at the football field and start looking above them.
“Everton are equal to Chelsea and City in terms of scale and size.”
Gary Neville criticized the Toffees for their management of the club in recent years.
Eager to find out who the next Toffees manager could be, Neville asked if the board has the ability to select the next candidate.
He said: ‘They were asked not to go to the game, if that happened there’s a line there. I don’t think he demonized the fans. People understand how passionate Everton fans are. I think the problem is the lack of results.
‘They have to do well because it’s a huge football club. Newcastle fans are excited because they have great footballers again. Moshiri has to do well on the field or leave the club.
They are struggling a lot in terms of how to run a football club.
‘They’ve moved back and forth between different styles. They have been all over the place in terms of their football identity. We are all quite clear how they should play. It has to be a lot of energy, high intensity, that feels like Everton should be playing.
‘How can you have Bielsa and Dyche? A lot of well-functioning clubs choose an identity, choose a group of players, and then choose a manager to fit that. Everton have moved from one end of the spectrum to the other. Some of the players have been a mess, some of the mistakes they’ve made.
