What IDIOT commentator would question Kevin De Bruyne?!: Jamie Carragher mocks himself after claiming the Man City star was having a bad night against Chelsea, before lobbing a brilliant cross for Nathan Ake, who hit the post

Jamie Carragher mocked himself in the comments after his assessment of Kevin De Bruyne’s performance against Chelsea came back to haunt him.

In Thursday night’s game at Stamford Bridge, Manchester City struggled to get going in the first half, with De Bruyne having a hard time influencing play from midfield.

As De Bruyne went for a corner early in the second half, Carragher claimed: “Today wasn’t his day.”

Kevin De Bruyne was far from his best in the first half against Chelsea on Thursday

Jamie Carragher claimed that he was having a bad night in the early stages of the second half.

However, he was made a fool of almost immediately when De Bruyne proceeded to send in a handsome cross that Nathan Ake headed into the post.

Carragher saw the funny side of his mistake and mocked himself by joking, “What idiot commentator would question Kevin De Bruyne?”

De Bruyne came into the game more as the match progressed and was involved in the winning goal.

The Belgian playmaker passed the ball perfectly into the path of Jack Grealish, who squared the ball for Riyad Mahrez to finish from close range.

De Bruyne proceeded to send a great cross to Nathan Ake, and Carragher mocked himself for questioning the Belgian playmaker.

City came under pressure in the closing stages but managed to hold their own to close the gap on leaders Arsenal to five points.

After a disappointing World Cup that saw Belgium knocked out in the group stage, De Bruyne has looked close to his prime since returning to City.

He registered two assists in his team’s victory against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup, and has played every minute in all three of City’s league games, scoring seven points to keep within Arsenal’s reach.
