Jamie Carragher leads criticism as fans SLAM decision to award England a penalty in Euro 2024 semi-final against the Netherlands… with Harry Kane netting equaliser from the spot

Fans have criticised the decision to award England a penalty in their Euro 2024 semi-final against the Netherlands.

England had trailed earlier in the day thanks to a fine goal from Xavi Simons, but were awarded a controversial penalty before the 20th minute when Harry Kane fell to the ground.

The Bayern Munich forward had already missed his shot when he was hit by Dutch defender Denzel Dumfries, who was shown a yellow card for his part in the goal, which was awarded after a VAR check.

Referee Felix Zwayer initially awarded the goal kick, but changed his mind after checking the technique.

Former England defender-turned-analyst Jamie Carragher was the biggest critic on social media, claiming the foul ‘was never a penalty’ despite his former team benefiting from it.
