- Southampton have reportedly rejected a third bid for Romeo Lavia from the Reds
- He also claimed he was unsure why Liverpool ‘are not looking for Moises Caicedo’
Jamie Carragher has destroyed Liverpool’s transfer tactics after a third bid for Romeo Lavia was reportedly rejected.
Jürgen Klopp’s side are one of several clubs in the running to sign the Southampton midfielder, and Manchester United have also expressed interest in signing the £50million-valued star.
The Merseyside team are looking for reinforcements in midfield following the departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, both of whom recently signed for clubs in Saudi Arabia.
Mail Sport understands that the Reds initially made a £37 million bid for Lavia, which was rejected, before increasing their bid for the 19-year-old to £41 million.
That was also turned down by Saints, with Liverpool turning down a £46m third bid today, with Russell Martin’s side sticking to their £50m valuation for the Belgian.

But Liverpool’s attempts to sign him have drawn the attention of former defender Carragher, who has criticized his old club by calling on them to abandon negotiations if they disagree with Southampton’s valuation of Lavia.
“This is embarrassing,” the Sky Sports pundit wrote on Twitter. “If you don’t think he’s worth £50 million, move on. If you really want him, pay him.
“I’m also not sure why LFC don’t choose Caicedo, yes it’s a lot of money, but Liverpool got a lot of money for JH (Jordan Henderson) and FAB (Fabinho).”
Brighton are locked in a stalemate with Chelsea over their valuation of Caicedo, specifically turning down an £80 million bid to sign the Ecuadorian.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have also identified other targets in midfield to secure that deal, including Leeds’ Tyler Adams.
Liverpool, meanwhile, agreed to sell club captain Henderson to Al-Ettifaq for £12 million earlier in the window. while Fabinho ended a five-year spell at the Merseyside clubsigned for Al-Ittihad for £40 million.

It comes as Liverpool signed Dominik Szoboszlai in a £60 million deal from RB Leipzig early in the transfer window, before announcing the signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton in a £35 million deal a week later.
Lavia, meanwhile, began his career at Belgian club Anderlecht, before moving to Man City’s youth academy.
He spent a year at Manchester before being snapped up by Southampton in 2022. He went on to make 29 appearances in the Premier League and enjoyed a brilliant campaign which saw him also score to help his side beat Chelsea 2-1 at the start of the season. .
Lavia was on the bench during Saint’s 2–1 win against Sheffield Wednesday and was not brought in by Martin during the match.
