The 28-year-old winger made his way through Luton’s defense to the penalty area and completed a superb run, on his weaker foot no less, with a superb attack from the bottom left of goal.
It was a beautiful piece of play from the England winger, with Jamie Carragher commenting for Sky Sports, praising Sterling, saying: ‘Raheem Sterling dancing feet. He looked back at his best last week and this is further proof of that.
“We now see the real Raheem Sterling in a Chelsea shirt.”

Before the match, Carragher praised the former Liverpool and Manchester City star, who struggled to find the back of the net last season, claiming his performance during the Blues’ defeat to West Ham was outstanding.
“It’s always been a bit of criticism of Raheem, that he’s not a great finisher and he doesn’t hit the ball very well, but if you look at his time at Manchester City, I think there was a statistic when he left. the club that there was only Lionel Messi in a pep Guardiola team than Raheem Sterling,” the former Liverpool defender told Sky Sports.
“I think he’s been a great Premier League player. Fantastic at Liverpool, I made that big move to City. And not every player performs at a big club when they go for a high price, but he does.
“He’s won all the trophies and a few years ago he was England’s best player at the European Championship and he had a great tournament, but last season was actually almost a nothing season for him. And I just think he really has the bit between his teeth.
Sterling’s stellar performance came after his struggles during his debut season at Chelsea
“He was excellent against Liverpool and his performance level went up again, against West Ham, and you think of Mauricio Pochettino coming up against Raheem when he was manager of Tottenham and he made those penetrating runs, but I want to see more of it. He’s a fantastic player and there’s more to come.’
At half-time, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink praised the striker for his persistence in scoring the goal.
“He’s been waiting for this for a while. This goal is pure determination for me. When you see him getting the ball here, he’s very direct, goes in and out and shoots it in with his left foot,” said the former Chelsea striker.
“It’s pure determination from me with skill, very direct and for this time he finishes with a shot instead of checking over and over. But this time he finishes on his weaker side and it’s a brilliant finish.’
