Monday Night Football analysts Jamie Carragher and Thomas Frank claim Burnley’s disallowed winner at Nottingham Forest was an ‘extremely harsh’ VAR decision.

Vincent Kompany’s side were held to a 1-1 draw against Forest after Lyle Foster’s late goal was disallowed by the video assistant referee due to a handball in the build-up.

Replays showed the ball glanced past the arm of Burnley’s Sander Berge just before he squared it for Foster to tap in.

In the analysis that followed, both Carragher and Frank emphasized that the goal should have stood and Burnley should feel ‘hard done by’.

“If we look frame by frame we can see he’s touching the ball a little bit, but I think it’s very hard,” said Brentford boss Frank.

“What about the clear and obvious where they said they were going to intervene? What if that was a defender? Would it be a fine? They must use their common sense. They don’t use common sense.’

“I’m with Thomas,” Carragher added. ‘I find it extremely intense. I think that should be a goal.

“I think initially he’s running, so his arms are out and he’s trying to get there, and then he sees the defender running into him.

‘The arm may deviate slightly from his running action, but then the defender also comes over, so that left arm would normally come up anyway.

“It’s just the smallest touch, but to say he did it with the handball on purpose… It didn’t change direction. I think they might feel a little offended.”

Elsewhere in the match, Callum Hudson-Odoi scored his first goal for the club after a stunning effort canceled out Zeki Amdouni’s earlier strike.

The result saw Burnley claim their first point of the Premier League season after suffering defeat in their matches prior to tonight.
