Jamie Carragher claims 10-man Liverpool’s dramatic comeback win over Newcastle is ‘one of the best in Jurgen Klopp’s time’ at the club

Jamie Carragher has claimed that Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Newcastle is one of their best wins under Jurgen Klopp as the Reds fought back from a goal and a man down to win at St James’ Park.

Substitute Darwin Nunez inspired Liverpool’s turnaround as the Uruguayan leveled the visitors in the 81st minute when he picked up a through ball and fired into the bottom corner.

Nunez then scored an unlikely winner in stoppage time with a deadly finish after being played through by Mohamed Salah.

His brace marked a stunning turnaround after Anthony Gordon put Newcastle 1-0 up in the first half, while Virgil van Dijk was sent off minutes later for a foul on Aleksander Isak.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher claimed the nature of the turnaround made the win one of the best in Klopp’s nearly eight years in charge.

“St James’ Park under Eddie Howe is one of the hardest places in the country to get to and that’s 11 to 11,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“We’ve talked about a lot of these players who have won a lot, but you see the reaction to that win because they realize how important not only the result is, but also how they got there.

“Because it would always be difficult to come here and Newcastle have been favorites in 11th against 11, but the situation they are in is an incredible result for Liverpool.”
