Jamie Carragher and Jurgen Klopp are targeted by rival fans as Liverpool-loving pundit revels in their comeback against Luton… just weeks after telling Arsenal stars to ‘get down the tunnel’

Arsenal fans branded Jamie Carragher a ‘hypocrite’ after he and Jurgen Klopp wildly celebrated Liverpool’s comeback against Luton on Wednesday night

The Reds moved four points clear at the top of the Premier League as they came from behind to beat Luton 4-1 at Anfield.

Chiedozie Ogbene put the visitors ahead early in the first half, before Virgil Van Dijk and Cody Gakpo scored within three minutes of the second half to put Liverpool ahead, while Luis Diaz and Harvey Elliott both found the net late on.

Klopp performed his trademark fist celebration in all four stands at Anfield as he celebrated a third successive league win.

Carragher, meanwhile, was put through the wringer as he followed the match while on duty on CBS’ Champions League coverage, alongside Thierry Henry and Micah Richards.

The former Liverpool defender looked far from impressed when Richards informed him of Luton’s early lead, but celebrated with enthusiasm as Van Dijk put the Reds ahead and Gakpo put them ahead two minutes later.

His celebrations were caught on camera by CBS and Carragher shared footage on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

“The party police won’t be happy tonight,” he posted.

The comment was a tongue-in-cheek reference to his criticism of Martin Odegaard’s celebration after Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Liverpool earlier this month.

Carragher’s assessment proved correct as criticism from Arsenal fans quickly arrived on his timeline.

“You are the hypocrite of the party police,” one message said.

A second added: “Crazy this guy saying some teams celebrate too much,” while a third wrote: “Just not happy with one rule for one and different rules for everyone else that’s all.”

The sentiment was echoed by other users, who accused Carragher of ‘having no shame’ and wondering if he would ‘not be happy with yourself’.

The Sky Sports pundit slammed Odegaard for taking pictures at the end of Arsenal’s win over Liverpool, suggesting he was over-celebrating a routine win.

Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard were all on the scoresheet for the Gunners as they closed the gap on Liverpool and Man City at the top of the Premier League on February 4.

Odegaard then had some fun with the club photographer at the end of the match, taking pictures of him celebrating after the final whistle.

However, the gesture irritated Carragher.

“Just go into the tunnel,” he said.

‘You won a game, three points, you’ve been brilliant. Back in the title race, enter the tunnel. I honestly mean it.”

He later posted footage of the Arsenal captain’s celebration on social media, adding: “By all means, enjoy it, but enjoy it by being disciplined!”

Meanwhile, Klopp compared the magnitude of the result to Liverpool’s famous comeback against Barcelona in 2019, when his side overturned a 3-0 initial deficit at Anfield.

“Tonight is one of those nights where it’s hard to stop talking. “I’m so happy,” he said.

Carragher was annoyed by Martin Odegaard’s celebration in Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Liverpool

‘We had to ignore the fact that we were 1-0 down and use the things that are good and improve the counter press. The second half was a thunderstorm. Wow.

“I’ll mention this game a few more times from now on. I promised my team a few months ago that I would never mention or use the Barcelona match as an example and I used it again today, so I broke my promise.

“Just because it was pretty much the same before the game. There are a lot of players missing, things like this. The team at the time ignored the fact of who is missing and I want us to ignore the fact of who is missing.”
