Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville agree on SEVEN picks in their Premier League teams of the season so far… as the Man United legend is SLAMMED for picking Man City star
Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville have selected their Premier League teams of the season so far, as we pass the halfway point of the season and approach the new year.
In light of their shocking season to date, it was unsurprising that Neville did not include any Man United players in his squad, while three Liverpool stars were in the squad and one Man City player made the squad.
Meanwhile, Carragher also opted for three Liverpool players, but there was no room for any of Pep Guardiola’s fighters in his team.
Both experts agreed on seven choices: Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, Moises, Caicedo, Mohamed Salah, Cole Palmer, Matheus Cunha and Chris Wood.
The only point of contention between the two was their choice between the sticks and their back line.
Neville gave City’s Josko Gvardiol a place in his squad, much to Carragher’s dismay.

Both experts agreed on the same midfield and attacking players, but argued about the defense
‘Which matches have you seen? Are you serious? Are you serious?!” exclaimed the Liverpool legend.
‘Yes, I mean it. To be honest, I had a hard time with the left back. It was the position I struggled with the most,” Neville said.
‘Evidently!’ Carragher added.
Neville completed his defense with Trent Alexander-Arnold, William Saliba and Van Dijk.
About Alexander-Arnold, the former right back said: “His defense has improved. There is more intensity in his defense, I’m not saying it’s perfect, I don’t think it will be.
“He has a much better attitude towards his defense at the moment than I’ve seen before. He has improved enormously in the past twelve months.’
Carragher instead opted for Nottingham Forest’s Ola Aina on the right flank, arguing he has been a vital part of their dramatic improvement since last season.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are second in the table, a big difference from the 2023/24 season, where they finished 17th and avoided relegation by just six points.

Carragher preferred Ola Aina at right-back, who has started all 19 games for Nottingham Forest
“Every time I watch him he does work on both sides,” Carragher said.
‘Every time I look at him, I look at him and think he could play for a team that expects to play in the Champions League every season.’
Each pundit chose a different option to partner Van Dijk in the centre-half. Neville argued that Saliba is the second best in this position as the Frenchman anchors Arsenal’s defense, which has conceded the fewest goals this season (16).
‘He just got over it. “Arsenal has a good defensive record,” he said.
‘Saliba, it hasn’t been the best start to the season for Arsenal, but defensively they are still strong and he is still excellent. He is the second best centre-back in the league.”
Meanwhile, Carragher praised Forest’s defense, who have conceded the third-fewest goals in the league this season (19), and selected Nikola Milenkovic.
“He’s like the Van Dijk of Nottingham Forest,” Carragher said.
‘I was very close to signing Gabriel for the defensive record, but also because he is almost the most talked about defender in the league because of what he does on set pieces.
Neville argued that Saliba is second only to Van Dijk among Premier League centre-backs
“I just like what Nottingham Forest are doing defensively, I know Gary went for the goalkeeper, the actual protection of what those defenders are doing in front of him.
In goal, Carragher selected Arsenal’s David Raya, while Neville preferred Forest’s Matz Sels, who has recorded the most clean sheets this season (eight).
