Jamie Carragher has admitted Arsenal were ‘better in every way’ than Liverpool in their win over the Reds on Sunday.
The Gunners blew the title race wide open by securing a 3-1 victory at the Emirates, moving to within two points of their opponents and ahead of Manchester City.
Liverpool found it difficult to create chances in the match, with their goal coming via an own goal from Gabriel and Jurgen Klopp’s side, which yielded just 0.41xG in the match, more than nine fewer than Arsenal and 0.04xG per shot.
The stats and overall play show that Mikel Arteta’s men limited their opponents to some high-quality chances on target, with the visitors experiencing similar problems to City’s earlier this season.
Carragher, who was criticized after criticizing their post-match celebrations, broke down Arsenal’s play on Sky Sports and admitted his former team were in second place.

“They were better in all areas,” he began. ‘The main thing that stood out was how strong they were defensively. I never felt like a goal was coming for Liverpool.
‘I said afterwards that it was a better result for City than Arsenal, but they have a slim chance of winning the title. That’s because of how good they are defensively, I think they’re the best in the league.
‘We saw that with what Liverpool did. You go back to City at the Emirates, the two best attacking teams went there and never seemed to score. They defended in two different ways: aggressively in a four, four, two and man-to-man.
‘I couldn’t believe Darwin Nunez didn’t start. Then we get to the ball and it was the box in midfield, players between the lines and it’s very Brighton-esque. It’s very difficult for Liverpool. “I don’t think Arsenal took enough into account the situations, but that was the setup and how easy it was.”
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp (centre) admitted his side were second best to the Gunners
Klopp admitted after the match that Arsenal deserved the three points, putting them on 49 points in total and Liverpool on 51.
The title race appears to be a three-way battle between the pair and City, and Arsenal have now recorded important wins at home against both.
“I wanted to look at the stats,” Carragher added. “They’ve played 23 games and this is the worst they’ve ever had in almost every statistic. It shows how good Arsenal were.
‘I just think Arsenal were at a completely different level defensively than Liverpool. That’s the hope for Arsenal when it comes to winning the title.”
