James Wan Showed Off His Peacock Horror Series at SDCC 2024

James Wan is a modern master of horror. The Saw, Treacherous, To conjureAnd Malignant director has worked primarily on the production side of the industry in recent years, thanks in part to his new partnership with Blumhousebut that hasn’t stopped him from making sure theaters are full of fun, scary movies. But the director’s latest production project will take a different turn as he launches his new series Teacup to Peacock.

The series held a panel at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, where the first details about the series’ spooky nature were revealed, along with the series’ first teaser trailer.

There’s not much going on in this teaser – it’s mostly a creepy teacup spinning around, with various scenes depicted in red paint around the edges. This doesn’t give us much of a preview of the show, an adaptation of Robert McCammon’s novel Skewer. The book is about a small group of people who get stuck in rural Georgia and must survive a terrifying, mysterious threat.

Teacup will play the lead role of Yvonne Strahovski (The Handmaid’s Tale), Scott Speedman (Grey’s Anatomy), and Chaske Spencer (Echo). Based on the panel, it doesn’t appear that Wan will direct the show, but he will be an executive producer. Instead, the show will be directed by EL Katz, who previously worked on Mike Flanagan’s The Ghosts of Bly Manor. While this appears to be the most direct involvement Wan has ever had with a TV show, it is not the first time he has produced one. He also produced a Swamp thing series for DC, the 2016 MacGyver reboot, and Archive 81together with Michael Clear, who is back for Teacup.

Teacup will premiere on Peacock on October 10.
