James Maddison ‘would love’ Harry Kane to turn down Bayern Munich interest and stay at Tottenham
James Maddison is desperate for close friend Harry Kane to turn down a move to Bayern Munich and continue to team up at Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou.
Maddison, who moved to north London for £45 million this summer from relegated Leicester City, has a close friendship with Kane, with both avid golfers outside of football.
But with German champions Bayern Munich poised to break their transfer record with a £85 million bid for Kane, there is a growing sense that his days as Tottenham’s main striker are coming to an end.
However, Maddison, speaking at the TNT Sports start-of-season event in London a week after the new campaign, is unwilling to throw in the towel that he is Tottenham Hotspur teammates for a while longer.
“We were friends before I joined Tottenham from the England team, we have the same interests and get along outside of football anyway,” he said.

“I would like Harry Kane to stay, he is the best number nine in the world in my opinion. But what will be and Harry is super professional.’
Kane’s future has become a story at Tottenham Hotspur in recent years, with his desire to join Manchester City before they move to Erling Haaland well documented.
Manchester United’s interest is also long-standing, and although Maddison is only a few weeks into his Tottenham Hotspur career, he is confident that talking about where Kane will play this season will not affect the dressing room.
“It hasn’t been a distraction as Harry is super professional,” said Maddison, who has only played a few times with Kane at club level this pre-season.
“I won’t go into details as I don’t know anything and let’s be respectful of Harry’s situation.
“Everyone knows what Harry Kane is like, he’s a super professional guy and no matter what club he’s at, he always gives 100 per cent when he goes to training and it’s the same as all the guys, so not at all (a distraction).”
The move is now in the hands of Bayern, with manager Thomas Tuchel having Kane as his number 1 target, especially after allowing former Liverpool striker Sadio Mane to team up with Saudi Arabia’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

Bayern managers Jan-Christian Dreesen and Marco Neppe flew to London on Monday for talks with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.
And though a deal wasn’t agreed, Mail sports understands that Bayern are preparing a third bid to surpass the £68 million they paid for Lucas Hernandez in 2019.
Kane is open to a move to Germany and while Levy wants at least £100 million for his star player, it is believed that an offer of around £90 million would entice him, especially if Kane is unwilling to sign a new contract.
Bayern are on the verge of signing the England captain on a four-year deal so he can join Thomas Tuchel’s side ahead of his first full season in charge.
