James Maddison has jokingly responded to Bukayo Saka after the Arsenal striker copied the Tottenham midfielder’s darts celebration in Sunday’s north London derby.
Saka imitated Maddison’s arrow celebration after taking the shot that deflected off Cristian Romero for Arsenal’s opener in the 26th minute of the 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium.
But 16 minutes later, Maddison cleverly beat Saka on the left and set up Heung-Min Son for Tottenham’s equalizer.
Asked about his England teammate copying his celebration, Maddison said SPURSPLAY: “Bukayo and I had a little banter and some nonsense talk about international duties.
“And I was told he was doing the darts celebration – he must still be doing it when I turned him for the first goal, I think, so I’ll have a quick chat with him there!”
Maddison continued to make fun of Saka when questioned Sky Sports News after the match.
Asked by reporter Michael Bridge: “A quick 501 at Ally Pally against Bukayo Saka, you think?”
A laughing Maddison then replied: “His action was terrible, wasn’t it?!”
The 26-year-old also had the last laugh on the pitch as he helped cancel out Saka’s penalty in the second half to give Arsenal a 2-1 lead in the 56th minute.
But just 90 seconds later, Maddison collected the ball from Jorginho before slotting in Son for his second of the match and ensuring Tottenham remain unbeaten in the Premier League under new boss Ange Postecoglou.
