James Maddison said Ange Postecoglou’s confidence when discussing a move to Tottenham made him want to work for the Australian.

He said Postecoglou’s promise that things “are going to change at Tottenham” whether he signed or not inspired him.

Maddison left Leicester for London in a £45 million summer transfer and has been in exciting form since, with three goals and five assists in all competitions.

Postecoglou has breathed new life into Tottenham and taken them to top spot in the Premier League with a mix of stylish football and charisma.

“We obviously talked about how I would fit into the way he plays and my playing style, what position and all that sort of detailed stuff,” Maddison said. Its own competition.

But at the end he said, ‘Well, very good to talk. But James, whether you decide to come or not, you’re going to see a very different Tottenham team.

‘I just loved the confidence with which he said that: you can come and be part of it, or you can go somewhere else and it will still change at Tottenham either way.

“And that just left that piece in my head where I was like, yeah, I want to work for this guy.”

Spurs are unbeaten in 10 games and have made their best ever Premier League start and no manager has made a better start since the top-flight side was rebranded in 1992.

Spurs sit top of the table with 26 points but will be severely tested against the likes of Manchester City, Aston Villa, Newcastle and Chelsea in the next six matches.

Maddison won the Premier League Player of the Month award for August, while Postecoglou won the manager award for that month and September.
