James Corden’s Last Show Primetime Special: Late Night Host and Tom Cruise Make Hilarious Performances in The Lion King Play Together Live in Latest Late Late Show Stunt

James Corden said “hakuna matata” with a familiar face for the primetime special ahead of his final The Late Late Show episode.

The 44-year-old chat show host was joined by Tom Cruise in their latest stunt for the popular CBS show together as they took the live theater stage to perform in The Lion King.

It all started on The Last Last Late Late Show: Primetime Special that aired Thursday night when James said he messaged Cruise, 60, to see if he would do one last mission with him.

He then played a clip of James and Tom sitting together in a fighter jet over the Mojave Desert a year ago.

“Sometime, before it’s all done, we’ve got to do a musical together,” Tom said. “Take a year to study and do a musical like that.”

“This is too bizarre for me,” James said. “I need to take a moment and realize I’m in a fighter jet flying over the mountains as I talk to Tom Cruise about doing a musical.”

Then the clip jumped to two weeks ago and showed Tom jumping out of the plane pulling out his phone with James on the phone as the mission impossible theme played. James said it was time for their last adventure and invited him to lunch on Hollywood Blvd.

Tom then joined James at the Pantages theater on Hollywood Blvd.

“You’re at the theater,” James said. ‘Do I have something nice for you? In the eight years that I have hosted the show. We’ve been skydiving, you’ve flown me upside down and today you’re entering my world. You and I are about to join the cast of the greatest show in Broadway history. We’re performing live at the Lion King. What do you say?’

“I say no,” said Tom.

James hugged him and said he would love it. James then introduced Tom to the cast.

“Limited or no theater experience,” James said.

James said they would perform live in front of an audience in the evening. Tom darted off as James ran after him. James made him spin and dance with him backstage. They played with the puppets from the show.

At that night’s performance, James and Tom waited backstage in their costumes. James wore a green suit while Tom wore a giant black wig. Tom dressed in a wild warthog costume while James in a green costume stood in front of a lion puppet that moved it and they both stepped on stage and sang Hakuna Matata. The crowd cheered for them. Tom and James returned to the stage, bowed to the audience and received bouquets of roses.

Later, Tom told James that he was dating some of the cast. James told Tom he wasn’t going.

“You don’t have to pretend anymore, Tom,” James said. ‘I know how this works. You’re a big movie star and you’ll have more projects to promote and when that happens you just find another late night host.’

“You’re telling me I’m wrong,” James said. “When Mission Impossible 12 comes out, you won’t be thinking about me.”

“This is your last show you did this to us,” Tom said.

The two then sang Elton John’s song Can You Feel The Love Tonight and hugged each other as clips from their previous skits played. A helicopter landed on the roof, Tom got in and flew away.
